342 cid stroker, AFR 185 heads, complete Modern Driveline cable clutch and T5 setup with standard Ford bellhousing in a 66 Mustang.

Can anybody confirm the JBA shortys will not foul, or be too close to the cable clutch, around the area where it enters the bellhousing please ?

Yes and no.

They don't clear the Z bar (not an issue with the cable). That was kind of a bite. They give up probablly 20hp and 20lbs/foot over tri-ys - for free. And they are a spendy set considering they aren't ceramic coated.

They are a huge improvment over the cast iron manifolds, don't leak, have awseome ball and socket collectors, and don't scrape the collectors going over speedbusters either.

I'm not DISsatisifed but I'm kind of (meh) on the whole purchase. I bought mine in 1999.

No. They are tons better than the stock log manifolds. Maybe marginaly better than the hipo manifolds. No worse than the short headers the 5.0 guys use, and they make huge power. Long headers are just worth more, and the power is free.

Ok, I think both of you guys are wrong. Shorties are a LOT better than normal OR hipo manifolds. Hands down. Longtubes are just a little better than shorties. Mostly they get you more torque down low, check out some dynos on them. There is no way longtubes are even close to 20hp and 20torque more over shorties.

Basically, shorties are just a little worse, but they are also a little easier to install and have a lot more clearance in most areas. If I didn't have headers yet though, I would go with longtubes.

If I'm wrong I'm in bad shape becasue I don't disagree with anything you wrote.

i hate my tri y's. i think i have the wrong set (maybe for a 351? i dunno) but i've got major clearance issues with the shock towers and pitman arm. by the arm, it had to be heated and bent in just to be able to turn the sucker! also, had to jack the engine up to gain the space i have at the towers.
