Someone stated in another post that to yield the best performance with the jet chip you should run 91+ octane fuel, but I have read elsewhere it is best to run 87 in the stock mustang. I'm wondering if I should go up to 91 now that i've installed the chip. Anyone have any experience or knowledge about this? Thanks.

In the instructions it says : we recommend 91 octane fuel for best performance , but for normal everyday driving 89 octang can be used. That is what I am normally running in mine and have had no problems

Keller : you have to have a diablo or other reflash to run a CAI, you cannot do it with a JET chip alone it will mess up you air/fuel and the car will run worse....

I've been running 87 with the JET since that's what ford recommended and I didn't want to switch until I got some feedback, but i'm gonna try 91 today when I fill up...
I have noticed some difference with the jet chip but it's not huge. The car shifts better all the way through the powerband and the chip seems to have mostly taken care of the computer getting 'confused' when you floor it at speed...now it just picks a gear and goes....
There is no real power difference on the low rpms, but it is noticeable in the 3500-5000rpm range...the car is quite a bit stronger on the top end.

Thanks for the feedback. K&N has a new CAI out that was dynoed for 15 rw hp. It uses the original carbon filter I guess to keep the computer from leaning out the fuel mix.

I'm thinking the increased airflow is going to affect the air/fuel mixture no matter what and create a lean condition, how is the filter material going to change that? I just spoke with a K&N rep and he did say that a reflash was not necessary for the mustang, but then when I asked what the price was on the CAI he asked which engine I had, so I dont think he knew what he was talking about, and was probably just generalizing. I also have an email out to K&N but that'll probably take days(and the same guy will probably answer it  )............i'm interested in this now if 15hp w/o a reflash is the case....but i'm skeptical....

According to other posts I've seen, the K&N kit reuses the factory MAF sensor. Also, when installing the K&N kit, you have to disconnect your battery for 20 minutes, then once the kit is installed, reconnect the battery, start it up and idle until it reaches normal operating temperature, then drive it around the block.

This procedure allows the computer to "re-set" the A/F ratio - basically a re-flash, per se.

I imagine installing the K&N kit, along with the JET chip, would make a nice combination. Neither are going to void your warranty, and are much cheaper than a tuner ($400) and a C&L intake ($350).
