JL Audio Stealthbox for '05+

I have a 2009 Mustang GT Convertible with the Shaker 500 stereo system. My girl bought me a JL Audio HD 750/1 amplifier recently. I've been thinking about using it to push the JL stealthbox with a 13.5" W6.

What do you guys think?
Do you think it will be loud enough in my convertible?

Depends. I think it'll be plenty loud enough.

It just depends how much bump you want. I had two 10" Kicker L7's running through two Rockford Fosgate R500.1 amps at one point in time and it was loud(108.3db) but not nearly loud enough. My current set up is Fosgate full range speakers, Alpine head unit, the factory door subs, and two 18" FI BTL subs powered by two T4000.1 amps and it's still not loud enough @ 133.3db.

P.s. if you still want to be able to put stuff in your trunk, don't get two 18's. I ended up fabricating a rear seat delete so that I would have somewhere to put a suitcase or whatever in the car.

what did you get those systems metered on? both those numbers seem pretty low

The newest was taken from 2-3' outside the car on a LED board at a car show in San Francisco. The old one was taken with a cheapy SLP meter from RadioShack. I was using the factory speakers but with the two subs that I got the signal from a Line-Level converter off the rear speakers hence the dB being very...mediocre.

I'm sure my current system will push 143-145 on the dash. Just haven't had anybody with an SPL meter that can read past the ~120's to test it on.

Well, it satisified me enough to not do any further audio upgrades. I'm actually not hearing impaired, honest. =) Most hearing damage is caused by high frequency sounds and your threshold for high frequency sounds is much lower.

I prefer to just make my rib-cage vibrate. =P

I currently have the JL audio stealthbox with the 13.5" W6v2 in my GT coupe and I think it's pretty loud. I have an MTX Thunder TA super amp supplying 800 watts to it and I can honestly say that the amp still has plenty of power left before the sub starts to distort.

I don't know how the sub will perform in a convertible, but it shakes the ***** out of my car (literally the whole interior shakes with bassy music). I couldn't imagine much more really being necessary, but then again is anything we reallllyyyy do to our cars necessary?

Check out the attached pics. I had a shop install a custom amp rack and mount the capacitor behind it. There's still a ton of trunk space.

This is exactly how I want to do my set-up. Do you know how much the JL Stealthbox weighs? Honestly, that's my only concern.

Well, I'm not sure offhand but the sub itself weights approximately 26 lbs. So, I figure the box definitely wouldn't weight any more than that, but it's probably close. The box is shaped awkward, but I'm able to pick it up and carry it no problem.

Also, keep in mind the box does bolt directly to the chassis from under the vehicle, which isn't necessarily a big issue, but it does limit your access to your spare tire.

I don't have a spare but I'm just trying to do something that can be removed easily for the track. I don't know ... I can't decide. I might just do some shallow mount 8s in the door.

Honestly, the stealthbox can be removed in minutes. It fits in the corner tight and the only thing holding it down is a 13mm bolt which can easily be accessed from under the rear.

And, if I had to do it all again, now that the technology has progressed since I bought my amp, I would look into new amps from JL. I'm pretty sure you can get an amp powerful enough for the stealthbox and you could mount it on the floor under your passenger seat. Now that would be a stealthy installation...

I've got no spare tire so I'd probably mount it under there and wire up another fan if it got hot. Air flow would be little to none so that'd be my only worry. If not, the passenger seat was going to be the next spot especially if I just do the door subs.
