JLT a no no

OKay, so here I am, 12:30 on a beautiful saturday afternoon, I should be out driving my shiny mustang, but where am I? I'm back and forth between work getting parts to make the JLT intake I just bought work. I've been working on this thing going on 2 1/2 hours!!! I can't tighten these clamps any more, and the thing is just literally falling apart!!! I absolutely cannot believe they market this *****. It looks like someone pulled PVC piping off a shelf at home depot and slapped it together. The paint which is the only credit I give it, is ruined now from trying to get this thing in my car!

Yeah, I had a Densecharger and it was the same thing. Except it didn't have the paint to begin with .

Had no problems with my JLT. Never heard of anybody having troubles with putting on a JLT. Mine went together in less than 15 minuets and felt an improvement with the engine. Everything went together fine, I never saw PVC piping that is shaped like that anyhow, lol. How tight do you want the clamps? Did you follow the directions and not just the pictures? I used a nut driver on mine and "felt" the tighness. Did you use a 3/8th in. drive ratchet if so thats no good. It shouldnt take anybody 2 1/2 hours to put a CAI on. Sorry to hear you had problems maybe you just got a very rare bad one.

Agreed, a drop-in filter such as K&N does just about as much good, although I did go with a C&L CAI anyway to also clean up the engine bay.

Well there you go torqueO, you have the short ram air, I have the CAI. I used a 1/4 ratchet with a socket. I must have gotten something defective, because I heard alot of good about JLT, but after today, i'll never reccomend it to anyone. BTW, its in now, took alot of patience, but there is a gouge in it where the oil fill cap is rubbing against it. I did feel a little gain, alot of sound, sounds good, but not worth the aggrivation. Its not like i'm some dumbass kid in the driveway trying to figure out right versus left. I've been in this business for awhile, and have been working with fords for the past 2 years, not like I don't know how things work under the hood of a ford

Dang, still sorry to hear you had problems....Didnt know you had the fender well, I try to stay away from those. Its to much of a pain when it comes time to change or clean the filter,...yeah I'm a bit lazy at times, lol. Try losening the clamps and retighten in the position you need to clear the 710 cap. Sucks to hear you had tuff time on the install.

i had the engine bay "rai" on my cobra. had problems putting it together, never liked how it fit. sold it after a month and just used a k&n fipk. was much happier with it.

Wow, never had an issue with mine, but it was a bit close to the oil fill cap. I just made the adjustment where it connects to the tbody...pulled it back a bit, and its not even close now. If ou call jay, he will rectify the problem ASAP, as his cust svs is top notch.People say cai is a waste, but I think my jlt with its bigger tubing and filter will help more when I install my stage 2 heads/cams.

I went with the K&N FIPK2. the most pitb part about that was the two straps that attach to the front of the motor.

I wouldn't buy anything else and it's low cost too! Finally a product that produces decent HP you can feel!

+1 for lovin my JLT. Has some rubbing problems...but as far as im concerned, its the best CAI on the market. I had a K&N drop in before....this is DEFINATLY better than a drop in.

Drop ins are worth 1RWHP and 3RWTQ...JLT gains 1MPH in the 1/4 and usually around 8RWHP.

Well, as I said, its not so bad now that its in, its rubbin against my oil cap real bad, gouged the plastic a little bit. I tried to reposition it, but it just doesn't want to move any more. I'll play with it more after work on monday. I'll grab some touch up paint and some new clamps too while i'm at work and see what kinda magic tricks I can pull outta my tool box. But now that its in, I like it. I take back what I say, for now at least, lol we'll see what happens in the long run.

Yea we didn't have the most fun time putting it together...mostly putting that rubber part onto the pipe...my bf was gettin pissed at it. Yet with the two of us we got it in probably an hour.
I only got the black one since with the GT CAI is 2 pieces, they won't custom paint them....so i used their suggestion and stuck some black velcro between the oil cap and the cc plate..can't even see it.

I just love how it looks...only reason why I got it really. I didn't gain any power from it at all...pretty much exactly the same dynos before & after.

Not to start a flame war, but do you have DOCUMENTED proof of this gain? 1mph is a huge gain from a CAI, that essentially has been proven time and time again to do nothing.
