I just bought my first stang on monday. it's a 94 Gt, 5 speed with 92k miles. there are a few mods on it already.
cobra front bumper, aluminum cobra rims, fiberglass "mach 1" style hood, cold air intake, msd ignition, underdrive pulleys, high flow fuel pump, aluminum driveshaft.
now the only issue i have is that the exhaust is: headers ran into 2.5" flowmasters with no cats. It sounds good over 2000 rpms, but below 2000 its almost chugging. is that because of it not getting the backpressure from the cats? any way to remedy this without redoing the exhaust?

what do you mean by chugging, do you mean the car itself or the exhaust sound?

Welcome to Stangnet! Can you post up a vid or exhaust clip for us so we can help diagnose the problem better? Those wheels are not cobras.

They are 2000 GT wheels.

good to know about the rims. thanks. I'll see if i can get a video with a sound clip of the exhaust in the next day or 2

you have flowmasters...thats the problem. they drone really bad at anything below 2k rpms.

stang looks pretty clean though. the hood isn't a mach 1 style. a mach one style would have a shaker in the center protruding through the hood thats attached to the engine. you have the cervini's ram air style hood. i think in the past they called it mach 3 hood so that's probably where you got that name.

speaking of the hood. I dont know much about it. Is it a functional ram air hood? the slots in it are wide open so when I'm driving down the highway the engine temp never gets much above the C. the car has a cold air intake right now. is there a way to use the ram air hood (if it's functional) AND the cold air intake? or would it be more advantageous to use the ram air and just a k&n filter? did I mention this is my first stang? (or sports car of any kind)

There is really no way to incorporate the two together. Functional vents in the hood will allow for any heat trapped under the hood to escape better, it wont do as much to actually cool down the engine temps as much as a better radiator, water pump exc exc would. Flowmasters do drone a lot they are the most drony muffler out there. Its probably just the sound of the exhaust as far as the chugging

Actually, the standard hood on a classic Mach 1 was the ram air hood so it is technically correct to call Cervini's hood a mach 1 hood. The "shaker" hood was an optional upgrade. Feel free to check out Wikipedia's article on the Mach 1:

I was about to comment on the hood deal, I've always seen that style hood referred to as "Mach 1 style hood" in pretty much all of the fiberglass vendors in the Mustangs rags.

And that's a sweet stang you got there. I LOVE yellow Mustangs. Mine will be yellow soon enough.

you are absolutely correct. you know i never put the two and two together on that one. interesting.

and yes that hood can be made to be functional or at least it used to be able to with a separate kit you had to buy from cervini. i wanted that hood for the longest time before i had the blower just because of the ram air capability. check out their site to see if they still make it. this is all assuming it is an authentic cervini hood and not some knock off. look under to see the logo

I think I figured out the reason for the ugly exhaust noise. The guy I bought it from didn't tell me I needed to use higher octane fuel, but I'm starting to think it has a mild cam in it. I put a little higher octane fuel in it yesterday and it sounds much better. thanks for the comments. I'm loving the car. I wanted one for a long time and couldn't pass this one up.
