Hey everybody, just dynoed the car yesterday and it put down 246 hp and 283 lb/ft SAE. I was happy with that but the car stunk pretty bad. Rotten eggs! I installed a Magnaflow x-pipe with cats so I thought it wouldn't stink like this. Could my manifold bolts not be tightened down correctly? Or is it just the two cats instead of four? I've heard passing emissions here in Colorado is easy with a catted pipe, but with this smell..it would never pass the "sniffer" test. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Nate

Bad gas maybe :dunno:

Or does it always smell.

Yea passing emissions here is easy...just as long as you have cats. I tried with my o/r x and it passed all tests except the visual :bs: so i had to go get cats put on it.

I dont know extactly what could cause the smell but just as long as the cintrogens (sp) are low, they will pass the car. And of course they increased the rates of tests now

Could be gas, but I think it's the cats burning off a little,(new cats do that) don't worry about it. The reason you noticed it, :stick: is for the first time you and your car are sitting still while it's at WOT and you can smell the exhaust.

Thanks about the dyno numbers...I was satisfied. If its bad cats...I'm gonna be pissed. The pipe is only three months old! I also thought it may be the cats burning off too....but I've driven almost six hundred miles since I put the pipe on. Hmmm...damn. Anybody else have any ideas? Thanks!

Rotten eggs is cheap gasoline. High sulfur in the gas causes formation of H2S (hydrogen sulfide) within the cats. It's not the cats, it's what you're putting into them. Buy good gas, cheapazz.

Hey mypony.....yeah I did go with you. I told you I was going to be the lowest numbers there! I was running Shell 91 octane, so I thought that would be good enough gas. I'm going to cross my fingers that its not the cats. BTW...congrats on the great numbers mypony! We have mods that I would think would make us pretty even, but I saw that you have underdrives and your a/f ratio was a little leaner across the board. I sure wish I broke the 250/280 mark (you need to change the 1 to a 2 in your sig BTW). I'll try some different gas and see what happens!

Shell gas additives STINK! Literally. Combine with newish cats and the smell would prevent u from committing suicide in the garage...you wouldn't be able to stay in there with it! LOL

your car isnt tuned right? I ran midgrade like I always do on the Dyno... at least we both outperfomred Ricks Roush stage 2, I know hes selling the thing for sure now :p

Next time we go I hope to be up another 20 ponies and into the 320s for TQ, and why change the 1 to a 2? I know the whole round up thing, but I'm a stickler for numbers

The only reason I said that you need to change the 1 to a 2 is because in your sig you list your hp number as 151.5 and it needs to be 251.5! BTW...What did Rick's car put down? I can't believe that it was lower than mine. I think I used 87 octane the first time I dynoed at dynopro...so maybe I'll use 87 if we dyno in the spring or something! It was nice to meet you btw...

thats like one of those damn tests that you have to read it and say whats wrong and you dont see anything, then you read it backwards and find all sorts of stuff wrong with it.
