Just finished TFS h/c/i swap and the car wont idle...

It will start right up, but wont idle unless I feather the gas, it runs crazy rich, and the closest it comes to idling is with the timing retarded to where its almost hitting the manifold. If I go 1 tooth back or foward, it wont even start up, when I get it to idle by feathering the gas, it idles like a 108LSA cam, like the windows shake like crazy and stuff. My friend said my rockers are probably too tight, what do you guys think? I also tried turning the dist 180*....

Its the TFS h/c/i kit. (TFS stage 1 cam)

I cant get it to idle long enough to get a timing light on it.

When I adjusted the rockers, I did the exhaust when the intake was almost closed, and intake when exhaust was open. Turn the nut until you cannot move the pushrod up and down anymore, and then 1/4-1/2 turn more then lock it out.

I think I screwed up b/c when I was locking it out, I should have held the rocker nut with a wrench b/c the rocker nut turned a little when I locked it out with the allen key on each one. I read something about waiting 10 mins or so for the lifter to decompress or something?

Have a helper hold the gas pedal and you set the timing with the light.

How did you turn the nut? When I adjusted mine I finger tighten when the valve was opened, then did a half turn with a wrench, and then tightened down the allen nut.


Don't forget to take out the pill in the distributor for the timing.

Just a suggestion, but maybe a huge vacuum leak between mass air and tb? That's how my first LX ran after I installed the SC and forgot to install bypass valve in intake tube. Black smoke like crazy!

Did you put the cam in straight up? What cam is it? I installed the same kit and got the Stage 1 cam and it was lumpier than I expected. But maybe not as bad as what you're describing.

Jrichker's surging idle check list helped me after I did my HCI. Check the codes first!
