Just got car dyno'd...runs a little rich and not as much hp as expected.

Just had my car dyno'd.....Pulled a best of 208hp and 278ft-lbs. I was expecting a little more but everyone's numbers seemed to be a little low. A 95 cobra with a full exhaust and ignition only pulle 218hp and 280ft-lbs. My car wont pass inspection b/c the hydrocarbons are too high. You can tell from the graph that its running a little rich through out the rpms. How can I get it closer to a 12....right now its about ~11.5 on average. My timing is at 12 degrees with the spout out and no pinging with 87 octane. Any ideas would be helpful. Im gonna change the fuel filter as I just realized ive never changed it before.

well heres the thing, there was an 87 gt there mostly stock(full exhaust, cai) that made 205hp and 277ft-lb of torque. His air/fuel ratio was dead on 12 the whole rpm range. Id like to try to get mine there but i guess ill see if she will pass like this. Ill let you know what haoppens. Any to get the hydrocarbons down? I know your supposed to beat the snot out of it right before you go, but anything else?

I'am guessing your's is a 93 and his being an 87 shouldn't it dyno a little better being closer to stock since it's speed density and you're not.

Just buy that stuff at the auto store the helps you pass emmisions, that stuff DOES work.

The hp numbers seem right on for a stock 93.
You don't need cats in NC to pass?

On the timing issue, you can run more timing on a car that is running rich you can run more timing without pinging.

Ok, 12's is really rich and if I were you I would get an AFPR and drop some pressure. Shoot for low 13s. Your naturally aspirated so you dont need that much gas. Remember that perfect stoiciometry is 14.7 to 1. Go for mid to low 13's. You dont need 12s.

Ill try to respond to all the questions....

ECU 5.0, I got it dyno'd in charlotte at custom performance by the speedway. They had a dyno day and it was $40 for 3 pulls back to back. They dont have a dyno there so it was one of those portable dyno jets on a flat bed. The name of the company that supplied the dyno is PRO DYNO out of Fort Mill,SC there number is 704-651-3807.

SmockDoiley...I wasnt aware that 12's were rich, i was shooting for 12's b/c i thought that was around what its supposed to be. If its 13s or so then the car is way off, and I might just get an AFPR. There was a 99gt there that made 250rwhp N/A which was the most out of all the newer N/A gts there and his was more around a 13.5 or so.

hllon4whls....I thought it would make sense that if your running rich you could turn the timing up and lean it out some, but one of the guys that works at the shop i was at said that adding timing wont lean it out and just cause detonation. If timing does help would it be safe to turn it up to 14 degrees on 87 octane?

L8 MUSL....In NC it depends what county you are in. Most of the big cities (ie raleigh, durham, charlotte) make you pass emissions testing and cats are required. I just put my stock h pipe on today and it smells a lot cleaner than last year so hopefully it will pass tomorrow. I was hoping that underdrive pullies, a MAF, 1.7 roller rockers, and an ignition system would be worth more than 3hp and 1ft-lb of torque than the 87gt. But that was also the year they used a more agressive stock cam and it is speed denisty. The third run was done in 3rd gear and i got 215rwhp and 273ft-lbs of torque. They didnt count this b/c they said the trans wasnt a 1:1 in 3rd gear, but others tried 3rd gear and lost hp so I dunno? I was hoping for more around 215 or 220 at the wheels but i guess 208's not that bad.
