I've used Flows my entire life and never noticed them getting any louder or "breaking-in". That's physically impossible with chambered mufflers ... there's nothing in there to break-in or change over time! Some people claim that the metal itself gets "seasoned" over time from all the hot and cold cycles, but I still say that's bs too. I'm on my 2nd set of Flows on my car and they never changed in sound from having them on longer.
What you get when you first put them on is what you're stuck with unless you change your midpipe to make them louder ... they don't break-in. I was also dissapointed when I welded the original 40s into my stock exhaust ... too quiet. Since then I bought the 'packs and ran those with the stock H and they sounded great, but I missed the chambered sound of my Flows. Then I bought my catted X and the 'packs were then too loud (for me) so I went with the American Thunder C/B (Delta 40s) and it sounds perfect now.
You have to upgrade your midpipe for those Flows to come alive ... otherwise you'll be dissapointed until you do. Changing to 1 chambers would make it louder, but it won't sound as good as it would with the 40s.
As you can see from my flow list, I am not a rookie when it comes to exhaust. I was a rookie at the hole mid-pipe though. After owning several cars with flows, catted and non(older), I think my off-road x sounds the best.
