I just wrote a whole thread....And my darn computer "Recovered the webpage". So im not reall in the mood to re-type it all haha. Im late to meet the GF for dinner, and we all know how that goes when your late! So Long story short, Just bought it from the Original owner and got it home today. Been garaged since 1992. Hasnt moved much since. 100% stock even down to the exhaust. I yanked the headliner out this afternoon and am in the middle of finishing it. Going to go through the carb tomorrow. But i need input on what to do with it! I dont want to "molest" a factory car. Should I do exhaust, cam ,carb and intake? Or will that ruin the value?

Here's some pics:

I had another thread going..But this is the start of my light resto thread.

If it were mine Id do a full exhaust, mild suspension and bolt ons, maybe something with the carb but nothing too drastic. Nice find

Nice. I picked up a 85 gt yesterday myself. Nowhere near as clean as yours though. I've got a hell of a cleanup job to do on mine. I'm jealous

Someone who knows for sure, help me out here... I think you can use any Fox dual exhaust system on the market.

you need to pick up the tranny cross member with the dual exhaust mount. you also need to get the exhaust hangers for the rear.

You need a double hump trans crossmember and you may have to add some exhaust hangers..i'm not entirely sure. My car had duels on it when i got it but the hangers all look factory to me.

Thanks for the replies. I took the stock muffs out today and im going to slip a pair of flowmasters in..Just not sure which to buy. I want a nice tone, but nothing overly loud. Took the wheels off and looked around a bit.

Got a list of stuff to replace;
Mufflers
Front brakes, Pads, rotors, and prob calipers aswell.
Wheel bearings both sides just because
Passangers side door handle
GT Decal on hood
Stainless brake lines all around
Oil change
Deiff fluid change
Plugs, wires, cap and rotor
Sway bar bushings and end links
Belt
etc...etc...etc...etc...etc haha

I'll post some more pics later on

Now that i think about it i'm pretty sure '85s had duel exhaust, but with a Y mid pipe..no? I think you might get by with just a cross member and different mid pipe.

Im going to recommend Magnaflows but its been a while since ive heard them on a pushrod car. The SS brake lines from Maximum Motorsports fit perfect when I put them on my 88 and got rid of the nasty peddle fade. In fact, if your doing pads you might as well do the brake upgrade kit they have and upgrade your stuff to 87 and up and use their pads and lines, unless your going five lug.

I just got home from the shop. Got all kinds of parts. I ordered a set of flowmasters they were 100 each, but the parts store kid hooks it up so got both for 120 lol. So tomorrows work will include turning rotors, brake pads, plugs cap and rotor, oil change and a new belt.

Im about to order rear control arms, uppers and lowers. Im not going to do any hard driving with this car. Im looking at UPR Elite Series control arms from mustangs unlimited. Uppers and lowers for 235$ Any good? The car makes a banging noise out back when you dump the clutch quick. And when i rolled it out of the garage it also made the noise when it went over the bump in the floor. So pretty positive they're junk

If it helps, my car gas bbk long tubes and mac pro chamber all the way Jack with 3" piping. At idle its pretty mellow. Once you crack the throttle, it just sounds pissed. Lol

Dang, Im late to the game. I bought a Magnaflow catback with 3" tips for my 1986 GT, and only ran the mufflers for about 200 miles. I never even installed the tips, and pulled the mufflers before selling the car. I would have practically given it to you since I have no use for it. Anyway, that is a great find, the car looks nice! Sounds like you have a good start to modding it tastefully, and not getting carried away.

Well i bought a set of bbk long tubes that were used on a guys car for 2 weeks. Paid 150 for them. And im going to make my own x pipe set up (buddy has an exhaust tube bender).

Now that im going to have full exhaust im thinking i should do my performer 302 intake and a carb. A good friend of mine who is also a well known engine builder in my area wants me to shave .20 off my heads and cam it aswell. What are you guys running for cams? Was gonna go with a comp cam, think it was the extreme cam? .533 lift.

If you're going to tear into the longblock, you should put a nice set of aftermarket heads on it!
