Just got pulled over...

Well, I was driving home from Blockbuster tonight about 9:30, and I decided to get on it through first and second. Bad idea. I stopped accelerating around 55, slid it into 5th, and cruised back down to 48 or 50 (this is in a 45 zone). Well, about a mile down the road i see the blue lights in the mirror, and since the radar detector hadn't gone off at all, I'm thinking wtf is this clown doing. He comes up to the car and asks me if I know why he pulled my over. Me: "Uh, I don't know; accelerating too fast?" He just asks for my license and parents phone number (I'm 17). He calls my mom, then comes back to the car and I'm thinking "Great, my mom is gonna be pissed when I get home AND I'm gonna get a ticket". Turns out he was really cool about it. He's like, "What is that, a '94?" Me: "Yes sir" Him: "Yeah, I used to have a '93 notchback, ran 9.4 in the quarter mile, so I know what a temptation it is having all that horsepower under your foot" Me:"Yes sir" Him: "So, sounds like you got a B303 or E303 under there. What you runnin?" Me: "Well, just a few bolt ons for now, I haven't had the car long enough to do any real mods" (I left out the part about the o/r h pipe- I'm suprised he didn't smell the fumes from a mile away lol). Him:" Well, you can go ahead and take off the air silencer and bump the timing to about 14*, that should be good for an easy 5 hp or so." So I'm thinking wow, what a cool guy. Then I got the talk about being safe, which I understand, I'm young, therefore stupid. Me: "You know, it's a Sunday night, there was no one around, I thought it would be okay to open it up a little." Him:" You're preaching to the chior, man; I know where you're coming from, just be careful". I'm just glad I didn't get a ticket. I went home to a fuming mother, but I was able to talk my way out of that. Apparently he was standing outside of his car when I passed him and he "estimated my speed to be around 80". Well that's bogus because I was in 2nd gear, I explained how he couldn't possibly estimate my speed accurately from outside his car, he just heard loud red sports car with young driver, therefore obviously recklessly driving. The fact that I didn't even spin the tires on takeoff proves that I wasn't racing or anything (even though there was no one else around), and I explained how there was no acceleration limit, only a speed limit; furthermore, I was in second gear. I was just wondering if any of you guys had had similar experiences. I'm glad there are cool cops out there who aren't just out to get you.

Actually there is an excelleration limit, you can get ticketed for "Speed Racing", which is accelerating ridiculously fast up to the speed limit.

Strange huh? :)

Cool cop though, and your lucky. Me, not so lucky, 90 days suspension, 30 left! :D

Yeah, last time I got pulled over I wasn't so lucky. No suspension, but had to pay for 4 hours of defensive driving school. That's when I got me a radar detector- that thing has saved me more times than I care to remember :nice: .

I got pulled over for racing a civic one time. He was sitting 1/2 block down the road is a closed gas station. We got to 50 then I saw him and he pulled both of us over. The cop was really cool and let us off. And the guy in the civic gave me a coupon for a free frostie frem wendys.

Good to go. :nice:

The president of our local Stang club is a cop and so are a lot of the members. He drives an 8 sec n2o Fox.

I live in Fairfax County which is a hardcore strict area and tons of cops.
I was pulled over by a cop one day and all he wanted to do is talk about exhaust systems b/c he liked the sound of mine.
He followed me for about 5 miles and never used his lights. He just pulled up beside me eventually and asked me what kind of exhaust I was running? He asked me to pull over and I did b/c you can never have enough buddys in blue that patrol your area. :D We ended up talking for about an 20 minutes and I met 8 other cops that he told to stop by and check out my car. Ends up he had a Cobra and he wanted to start modding it up. They were telling me they only really hassle "fart can imports".
3 weeks after that I was cruising home and a 2 young cops rolled up beside me at the light. They both had their windows down and were both telling me to "get down on it!!" with smiles on their faces. I was like "yeah right...if you want to see me get down on it then one of you get in and ride with me".
I ended up following them to a Subway parking lot and one of them hopped in while the other followed me. I gave them both a ride and let one of them pull on her once. Afterwards we sat at Subway in the lot having subs b/c they were on their way to their break when they rolled up on me. They both told me they heard about my car from the other guys.

To say the least, I never get pulled around here and my car is illegal as hell. Dark windows, slicks, exhaust, no emissions and of course my driving.

I just need to become a firefighter and then I get my get out of jail free card.

One of my buddys who is a fireman got out of a 95 mph ticket. At first the cop wrote him the ticket then once he found out he was a firefighter he said well your luckey, I dont give tickets to firefighters and tore it up.

Sounds like JR is writing from Heaven.... I'd have a blast if cops were like that around here!

Seriously people around here are like hmm 18 years old ...driving a black mustang...lets get em' Joe! Actually my last ticket was in my moms Volvo station wagon at 2 in the morning on the way home from work. Got a ticket for 15 over but hte cop messed up like 5 parts of the ticket so im taking it to court.

:D The Police station is in my neighborhood 1/2 a block away. They use my street when they go on and off duty and always see me out there cleaning her up and I always waive to most of them. So even though I don't know them personally, I'm sure when they see me on the road it holds a little leiniency or at least that's what I think. I've been in this area for 5 years and I've never had any cats on my car. Emissions here is crazy strict and they look under cars all the time when they pull them over. Window tinting here is only allowed on the front windows if it's 50% or higher and I have 15%. I've never been pulled over once for any infractions here and I drive FAST everywhere I go. I do however know where to and not to speed around here and a lot of luck but my # is coming up soon.
Like I said, never hurts to know a few Cops in your area on patrol though.

Good stories all around. It's good to know also that cops aren't there to sting you deliberately. I used to have the worst time with cops in my '92 5.0L LX, but it was that Calypso green colour, pony rims and a loud exhaust. With my '94, cops usually just look the other way...

this is me NOT complaining ;)

The other day a cop knocked on my door, and asked who owned the "black mustang outside". This scared the crap out of me.

Turns out he just wanted to sell me a car cover because he got rid of his old stang.

Now, I don't need a car cover whatsoever, but of course I bought it, so next time I get pulled over, I can say "HEY! The car cover is greeeaat!" :D
