so I was thinking, with out heater cores being so not good, and such a bitch to replace, would it be beneficial to bypass them once the temperature goes up in the spring? All it would take is some extra hose and and elbow or two if you wanted to get fancy. 10 minutes and your heater core gets to rest for a few months. So what do you think?

I would think you would be better off keeping the heater core hooked up, and making sure you have enough of anti corosive coolant in the system to protect the metal.

I think the biggest problem is that people don't pay enough attention to the anticorrosion qualities of antifreeze, and the thin heater cores will be the first to rot out.

Just a theory I have had for a while. I formed this theory when a friend replaced his for the second time on his 87 and (as far as I know) my 90 still has the factory unit, and I have owned the car since 96.

my heater is bypassed, and i never use one to begin with...i dont plan on having it hooked up any time soon either. but my ac is awesome

Both A/C and heater core were removed on my previous stang. Yes, it was really hot in the summer and really cold in the fall, but no other problems

If you don't mind REALLY cold in the winter then go for it.

mine is unhooked because it started leaking and i havent had a chance to replace it.

yea that could be true also.

I dont even need heat anyway, I drive 10 mins every morning so by the time I get to school my car will just about be warm. I want to use the defrosters though.
