Just how loud is your Tri-Ax?

My Tri-Ax is pretty noisy! Throughout all the gears, I can hear the "whirring" of the transmission - especially as the RPM's climb. Just now on the highway in 4th gear, I had an occasional loud scratching sound. I know the Tri-Ax is the louder of the bunch, but I've mounted the stock shift handle (complete with rubber isolators) and I'm still hearing all this. Maybe I became too accustomed to the stocker.

I had a Tri-Ax on my Gt with a T-45, and it wasn't this noisy. The only time I really heard the shifter on that car was in 4th at WOT while getting on the highway. Maybe the TR3650 version is just louder. Tell me your experiences!

Yeah, my gears can be heard through the TriAx even with my Magnapacks. When driving in low rpm in any gear I hear a low pitched buzz. Everytime I let the clutch out after a shift, I hear a pretty loud clunk/bang. At 5th gear on the highway, the gear whine sounds like some jet engine is taking off. Makes my car sound even more like a pos.

If the MGW really is what everyone makes it out to be, I might have to pick one up.

ive had them all and they are noisy...nothing is wrong just all the BS has been removed for a nice shift instead of that stock jello feel

1.) Remove upper handle.
2.) Wrap base with electrical tape (this forms the sound insulation).
3.) Reinstall upper handle.
4.) Listen to the quiet and no introduction of rubber to change the feel of the shifter.

There's a guy in here who sells a seal for it for approx. $10. I installed it with my Tri-Ax and there is no noise whatsoever from the transmission.

When I re-installed my Triax, after noise issues, I decided to do it right. I guaged the stop bolts to 30 thou. I stretched the original base boot over the top of the triax. I placed the second boot on and the interior plate with shifter boot.

I ditched that POS Triax shift lever and put back on the rubber mounted stock lever on the Triax.

It's quiet, smooth in the shift, yet direct and I can still feel the "notch" in the shift.

It worked for me.

PS: Gotta use the stock bolts to do this. I save everything... lucky!

I don't think it matters what shifter you have, I have a tri-ax and don't hear a lot of noise, I however have the shifter gaskets on mine.

I have a MGW and it is noisy also, not as much as yours sounds. But when going at low speeds, so my borla exhaust isnt too loud, i can hear the whirring of the tranny. I never heard it with my stock shifter either. But its not that loud, even if i have the radio on low, it drowns out the tranny. I also put on the shifter gasket, which is over rated in my opinion, it doesnt fit that well and i doubt it makes that big of difference in noise.

Yup.. I did all of that. I removed the stop bolts completely, stretched the rubber boot around the Tri-Ax base, put the dust cover boot over that, and installed the stock shift lever with rubber and I'm still hearing all of the ruckus. I can even hear the Tri-Ax humming under the car at idle a little bit!

For the record, I have tried the MGW and it's as quiet as you've all heard. However, I didn't like how firm it was and the handle style - I need options and being stuck with MGW handles only doesn't work for me. I love the stock height.

Seriously, Pro 5.0, medium handle. It is the best I've ever used, short of the proprietary MGW.

I've got a B&M and its great. I get shifter buzz every now and then but for the most part it's pretty quiet. I cut a thin strip from the OEM rubber piece and put it between the upper and lower halves to take out the tranny vibration and it works great.

I dunno about the medium handle, since it will probably resemble my TriAx on the lower setting. I am curious about the Pro 5.0 using the stock handle though. If I end up doing that, this would mark the 4th shifter change on this car. I'm hoping that if I hold out on the TriAx just a little long it will break in a bit and shifter smooth and perhaps quieter. I just can't get over how much smoother my previous model was.
