just installed HID's...and they wont turn on

well i just installed my 4300k kit from vvme.com, i mounted the ballasts just like blinkstang's next to the headlights on the inside. everything is hooked up like it should be, but when i pull the switch i get nothing. just the running lights come on. the only thing i can think of are that the little black cap inbewteen the power cords on the top of the ballasts popped off and i cant seem to get them to stay on right. what are those for? thanks

i need help quickly as i need the car in two hours, btw. thanks:nice:

Did you test them first by touching the power leads to the battery?

What are you using to power them? The headlight wires or a wiring harness connected to the battery?

Usually it's just a hot and ground with those. So either check your ground wires or check to see if power is getting to the ballasts. Also make sure the wire size is big enough to handle the large startup amps required

Did you run a hot wire and ground for each headlight? If not, they won't power on. Not enough juice to fire up the ballasts. Run a hot wire from the pos terminal of your battery to each bulb. There should be a hot wire and ground wire as part of the wiring harness of both bulbs that came with your kit. Just splice and you should be good to go.

Do you have any connections going to the battery at all, such as a relay or the direct connections mentioned above?

My HID's use a relay, as seen in steps 4-7 of my kits instruction manual - LINK

I'd shoot MustangMan00 a PM since he has a thread in talk with a kit from the same company. He has both headlights and fogs working properly.

Yeah. All the kits say "plug and play" and "no splicing required", but you have to run a hot wire and ground for each side, that's what powers the ballasts. Just run it to your battery term, and you can also add a fuse on your hotwires as a precautionary thing.

well i got them working finally. no i didnt have any other power to the ballasts except for the 9007 female connector. i went to autozone and got a relay and some wire with an inline fuse and got everything hooked up.

im a dumbass :bang:

thanks for clearing things up.

oo, glad u fixed it. Had no idea myself what was wrong with your hids.

hope u like them.

i love them! and theyre not too bad in the factory housings.

i wonder why my stock headlight harness's wouldnt power the ballasts...i thought they were 50 watts or something like that. obviously thats how the kit was intended to be used.

its just like window tint, a must have for any future vehicles.

i have HIDs in all my vehicles. both the mustang and my Xterra have the 9007 bulbs and they work by just plugging them in to the original socket.

my wifes honda with 9006 bulbs i had to make a wiring harness to get them to turn on. my xterra sometimes only ignites one bulb at first but i turn it off and on and they both come on. i think it is just a cheap ballast.
