hi guys, i just installed the pro 5.0 shifter, and i now when its in neutral it sounds like a dishwasher ( like alot of fluid) when i put my ear close to the shifter... is that normal--and its not leakin at all i should make that clear, and it was sealed with sealant aswell-- is this normal? and its kinda weird soundin when i put it in gear, it dosnt grind but sounds like a baseball card in the spokes of a bike, but really really quiet. do my bump stops need adjusting? like i said it dosnt grind but is it possible its bearly touchin the dog teeth or what ever they are called? thanks alot

well i just learned this...so here it goes....

I installed a Steeda Tri-Axe 2 weeks ago..

The noise actually isnt the shifter...its the transmission, dont worry its normal. The reason the stock shifter feels like a wet noodle is that it has all that rubber in it to cut out sound...As long as you switched that pastic cap ur good...

Another note...The stops should have a gap when the shifter is in gear...there not to shorten throws...there to stop you from over shifting...

The steeda Tri axe shifter manual actually talked about the sound. If your still woried look for a manual online so you can read it yourself :D

BTW im not claiming i know everything I dont wanna be one of those "idiots" giving bad advice. This is what I know about it and im sure someone will correct me if im off abou anything :hail2:

yea i know the bump stops are to make sure u dont over shift and **** something up, but im just worried bout the noise im hearing, sounds like a ****in washin mashine and a hear like buzzin or what ever... thanks for ur advice... and i cant seem to find a guide any where, or that weird cup ? everyone is talkin bout ... thanks

np...

the ball thats under the shifter (sits in tranny) should have a black plastic cup that fits over it...I doubt it came on the 5.0 shifter...it stays connected to the factory shifter when removed...just pop it off with a flathead...

the noise is normal..well some..im woried that the plastic cup isnt on the bottom of your new shifter...i assure you the noise is normal...thats why ford has that stock wet noddle for a shifter...to filter sound ;)

well the guy that did it use to work for ford, has a mustang cobra and tears down motors and tranny's and re builds them all the time, im sure he wouldnt make a novice mistake like leavin that cup thing off.. so maybe im just paranoid?

oh im 100& fine with the noise.. dont get me wrong... im also known to get worried bout my cars lol... i just wana make sure im not doing my car any harm, but im fine with the noise as long as its healthy to my car haha !

Maybe the inner boot wasn't installed since it needs to be cut to fit around the shift housing or the hole may have been cut too big. The inner boot will deaden some of the noise if it's used and the cut out potrtion fits snug around the housing. Ask your guy if he used the boot or cut it for a snug fit.
