The other night my clutch started slipping into 4th under load so I figured its time for a new one. I was wanting a Centerforce Dual Fricition till I heard they were very aggressive and tore up the transmission if it is stock. So now I am thinking about the Centerforce II with Pressure PLate and Fidanza Lightweight flywheel. What are your guys opinions on this setup? Also are these part numbers correct for a 1996 Mustang GT stock trans.

Lastly which is the best Clutch quadrent and cable to buy.

Couple of things:

1. Advanced sells a good clutch cable, with an aluminum quadrant that gets rid of the sloppy Ford product. The adjustment is done at the transmission end from under the car. There are some that allow you to adjust the thing at the firewall where the cable enters the cabin if you prefer that.

2. I would not touch the input shaft bearing when replacing the clutch unless you can feel slop when you grab the input shaft and try to move it side-to-side.

3. You should replace the pilot bearing that usually comes with a clutch kit, this supports the front of the input shaft where it engages the crank/flywheel.

4. You didn't mention mods. If the motor is stock, I would be very tempted to go with a stock replacement, which will cost under $150 and will work just fine. No chatter, no stiffer clutch effort, etc. I've not liked the dual-friction type clutches (two different materials, the benefit of which I have not seen). The last one I tried would chatter a lot in reverse particularly. We just wore out a zoom dual friction in 9 months, with a couple of trips to the strip per month and normal driving elsewhere...

5. resurface the flywheel for the smoothest possible engagement.

MM makes the best non adjustable cable IMO. I like the Steeda quadrent and firewall adjuster.

The MM cable you speak of is actaully a stock ford cable MM just removes the plastic grommet that would normanly clip into the firewall. do some reading on there site they have tested every adjustable cable out there and have found out that the oem cable is the strongest and thats why they sell it.

I have a DF clutch and i can tell you its in NO way aggressive. mine acts pretty much like the stock clutch did when i first bought the car. it grabs just a hair quicker then the stock clutch did. you can tear up your tranny more by bad driving then with upgrading a clutch.

so should I get a II or a DF? I want a clutch that will grab really good but wont kill the tranny. Also need to know which throwout bearing to use. I am ordering this stuff this weekend and want to get all the right stuff.

I bought the df(not installed). from the research I have done I found that for pedal pressure and <500rwhp that this was an excellent clutch choice. pushing >500rwhp a more aggressive clutch is prefered. pedal ease,chatter,holding power was all considered in my choice

Many people will tell you spec clutches are crap but i couldnt be happier with my stage 2
