I just ordered a steeda triax off partshopper and have no idea how to install it i am not very handy any help is appreciated

It comes with instructions. Follow them to the letter. You'll be fine. Hardest part is getting the stock shifter off. It's on there pretty good.

Piece of cake. The instructions should tell you everything you'll need. If you have basic hand tools you're set. If you can't get the stock shifter off then you'll need to have ramps of a jack and jack stands to get underneath and use a long screwdriver and hammer. Put the end of the screwdriver on the underneath base of the stock shifter and hammer it up.

I have done it twice once on my 2002GT and then on the Cobra. On the GT the shifter was very difficult to get off I just put the stock handle back on it after the boots were removed and rocked it back and fourth until it popped off. The cobra it came right off  The only recommendation is if you use the shift stops to take your time and make sure you set them correctly I have heard of alot of people who misadjust then and the car ends up popping out of gear.

Pretty easy even if you are not handy. Get a Haynes manuel for the instuctions on how to remove the stock shifter. Good money to spend since you will be able to use the manuel later too. I used a rubber mallet and knocked the hell out of the stock shifter to remove it. Also ,and this is in the instructions, the plastic gromet attached to the ball of the stock shifter needs to be removed and put on the new one. Sometimes it will stay in the reciever of the shifter ball but just make sure you have it either way.

I used a good ol'fashioned claw hammer to pop the shifter off the tranny. You'll have to move it around until you find a good pry point and pivot point. (someone else on the forum mentioned this trick). I didn't have to crawl underneath or anything. Tremec thinks the stops should be removed, because the trans has internal stops. I would just set the stops about the width of a credit card from the handle.

Oh yeah, you gotta remove the black plastic cap from the old shifter and pop it on the new shifter. I used the open end of an large open-end wrench. Careful! That sucker will fly off and hide from you if you don't watch it.

You remove the shifter boot by curling the fingers of both hands evenly under the edge of the boot and lifting up.

With my Pro 5.0, I removed the boot from the stock shifter, and put it on the new one. I don't know if it will work with the triax. I would try just to combat the dreaded "triax whine" AKA gear noise, and keep the mechanism clean. I would consider getting a sheet of gasket material too. I've read that it can quell some of the noise too.

All in all an easy and rewarding mod. Have fun!

Don't hesitate to PM me for any questions.

It's really easy even if you have no experience at this stuff, shouldnt take more than an hour. Just make sure you tighten down the shift stop bolts all the way. I didnt do it b/c my wrenches werent the exact size and had to do it in a parking lot :nonono:

make sure you use high temp sealer/gasket maker
when ford install my steeda triax on my 2nd tranny they used regular silicon and it melted in to the bottom.. the tech told me there no problem with what happen.. and that sence its an after market shifter.. its my fault
If you can tell I REALLY HATE FORD.. but LOVE my car..
