hey guys... ive only posted on here a few times, when i had a few questions regarding my mkiii supra drag car's rear-end setup.. i own that supra and a 94 turbo supra 6-speed but i decided i need some american muscle to play arround with... so yesterday i purchased a black 03 cobra with 618 miles! i love this car... i plan on breaking it in for a few k miles then start modding it... i will have about 7-8k to throw at... all of it is going under the hood... ive looked at some parts for this car on various websites but i need some feedback on what combos work best.. all i want is enough power to spank some vipers and z06's on pump gas... plus something i can drive arround town comfortably... i dont need extreme power.. thats what my 800rwhp supra is for.. but that is only good for 80-180mph highway runs... too laggy arround town and has no traction at lower speeds... well anyways.. thanks in advance for your feedback!

Drive that thing, don't do one of those wimp "break-ins." It's all about piston ring seal, you need to get on the car to make that good seal happen.

I'd say go for a twin turbo setup.

There are turbo Mustangs out there, a handful are on this board. I remember seeing a turbo Mach 1 setup on one site, the setup for that would be very similar, if not almost identical, to what you would need for an 03 Cobra.

I can only imagine an 03 Cobra engine with a turbo.

yeah i think doing a turbo setup on an 03 cobra would be a little expensive and time consuming... and i dont need something like that...

so do they have problems with the rear-end on these cars?? i know ive been running 800rwhp on my supra wich has the same set-up and i havent had a prob with the stock diff or half shafts... so what would you reccomend for the cobra?

Depends what you want to do with the car. If it's going to see a good amount of drag racing (which it WILL, right? :D) I would swap in a built 8.8" (like what the GT's and Mach 1's have). Solid axle kills IRS for drag racing, end of story.

If you want to keep the independent rear in there, you should look at upgraded bushings for everything, a rear differential girdle, and maybe upgraded halfshafts if it's going to be putting down some really big numbers.

I've always heard it's wheel hop that kills those halfshafts. I'm sure if the engine has enough muscle, it could snap them just from the power too (only an issue if you've got sticky tires I'd assume).
