I have a K&N Gen II FIPK, removed air silencer, but i never expected anything but modest gains (3-5hp).

The FIPK is different than just a filter. With the FIPK, the whole factory airbox, including the intake silencer, is tossed in favor of a filter and replacement ducting to the throttle body. This is an FIPK:

It sounds like you just got a filter, right?

You got those dyno gains just from underdrive pulley and FIPK?

Can anyone compare the sound of the FIPK to the sound of a MAC CAI? Heard one on a car the other day and it sounded great.

Yep. Baseline, bone-stock was 228.5

The K&N boosted that to 237.8 (+9.3) and the pullies got me to 242.3 (+4.5).

Not great numbers but not bad for how simple the mods are.

If you can get it cheap enough go for it. I felt like my car had better throttle response after adding mine and it seemed to get to redline faster. Keep checking ebay, I got mine last year for $128.00 shipped to my door.

I have one, didn't expect a whole lot and got more than I expected I would. If you can get a good deal on it, I'd go for it, otherwise, just save the money for another day. (I paid 100 bucks brand new from a friend )

I haven't regretted mine - the kit looks so much better than stock, and you do get a little power out of it. If you're going for a CAI then this setup is the best type to have (Steeda and a couple of others make a similar kit) - no elbow to confuse your mass air meter, and no hard-to-change filter in the fender - just a near-straight shot into the engine.

You can hear a nice "whoosh" of air when you step on it, kind of like on a carb. Also, it made my already booming exhaust a bit louder.

I won't dispute that if you spend $250 elsewhere, you might get better increases - but the looks and sound are also a plus. And it's fun to have an easy 1-hour DIY project for a Saturday afternoon.

Just my 0.02

What about the dyno sheet from K&N themselves, sure they make it in there best interest, but its still solid numbers, also 5.0 Mustang did a test of a few CAIs a little while back and the FIPK saw the most gains with the densecharger (sp?) right behind it
