Having a family and all, I am limited to the mods I can put on my car. I will basically try and get one mod a year. On the engine side, would a K&N FIPK intake be a smart mod for my first mod. I don't want gears because I'm sticking to street tires. K&N claims 10 hp on their site. Anyone ever test it on a dyno. As a stand alone mod, what would be better for the money. Thanks.

Gears and street tires are not really a problem. This would be, by far, the best bang for the buck. I can, pretty easily, finesse either of our GTs, the 01 or the 02, off the line with little or no wheel spin. Then I'd look into a catback, a shifter....

I also went from a drop in K&N to a K&N FIPK and didn't feel a thing. If you don't want gears then maybe a X or H pipe would be good.
EDIT: Didn't see you said on the engine side. How about underdrive pullies?

The plenum and throttle body combos give a good seat of the pants kick too and are simple to install. They are a bit more than an FIPK however. HP on these mod motors does not come cheap unfortunately.
BTW, I too have a family, mortgage, and 2 GTs - I feel your pain. Saving account is nearly non-existent!!!

Your a great bunch of guys. Thanks for the info. I'll probably wait till I can get a cat back. I should see some gains there I hope.

You'll probably see the same gains from a cat-back as from a K&N FIPK honestly. The sound is where it's at If you want power and a little sound, I'd get an offroad X or H pipe in place of the factory catted pipe.

I agree. For the same or less money, an offroad x or h pipe will give you more power than you would get from a catback and the sound will change too. The stock catted midpipe is more of a restriction than the stock catback.

U/D pullies are a good choice. A cat-back system is music to drive to. Shifters are fun city. Gears make a noticeable difference. Do the FIPK last. Enjoy your
Stang.

ToplessStang, I also have to be careful how much money I spend on mods and do not want to loose streetability. If you can save around $1500, and shop around, you could get the first four mods in my signature. They are very effective and do not affect drivability. If you want to do them one-at-a-time, start with the K&N filter, cat-back exhaust, Accufab TB / plenum. And finally, the gears and Diablo Predator.

I've got before and after dyno plots on my website for my 02 GT. The FIPK-II was the first mod and netted me 9.3rwHP. So far, my best simple bolt on though I've only got a few . In contrast the much more expensive Accufab 70mm and plenum netted me half of that...ditto the pulleys.

Don't worry about gears and your tires. 3.73s or 4.10s would really wake the car up. About the biggest concern people have is what RPM they'd be turning on the highway; a change to 4.10s would bump your engine RPM by about 1.25x in 5th: if you're at 1900RPM now you'd be at 2380RPM with 4.10s. Can you live with that? If so, go for it.

When I went from a K&N drop in filter to the complete FIPK II kit I noticed a little bit of a gain on the top end (4000-6000 rpm) It wasnt just in my mind either because I ended up putting the stock air system back on for some warranty work and definitely noticed the lack of up top breathing. On the bottom end it didnt really make a difference (possibly a slight loss of throtle response from off idle to around 2000 rpm)

I've spent the past 24 hrs. looking into the Accufab Tb and plenum and now you write this . That's a pretty nice gain from a CAI but now I'm really confused LOL. Then again, I would be better off doing exhaust before plenum right. This mod thing is tough. I do feel my car run out of breath just before the end of the 1/4 mile and that's when my cousins 350Z blows by me. That FIPK just might help. I don't know anymore but THANKS so much for all the input.
