I have this CAI installed and am having problems with it. I was planning on putting the stock airbox back but want to give this another shot. I'm having problems with the MAF sensor. It's reading incorrectly and causing the check engine light to be on. How did you install the MAF sensor in it? Did you have to modify anything or tweak the sensor somehow? Anyone experience similar problems with it?

Are you making sure that the you are installing it corretly. The black part that accepts the wiring harness should be in the 12 o'clock postion not at the 6 o'clock.

You should not have to change anything on the stock MAF configuration. If you or a previous owner cleaned the K&N filter and applied excess oil to it that can disrupt the MAF sensor function, but if you bought it new that would not be an issue.

Was the MAF calibrated for your vehicle? Unless it's the stock one still..

I just put on a 80mm MAF lastnite and so far I have no problems.

The car was completely stock when I bought it. I first had the K&N CAI professionally installed by LineX for $50. They said they followed the instructions and it's installed correctly. But the car was driving like crap (felt like not enough air going in) and CEL was on. I later took it out and installed it myself, still no luck. Basically it says that the MAF sensor is reporting not decrease in air and the temp. sensor is reporting increased temp. in air. Basically the opposite of what the CAI is supposed to do.

I was going to take it back to LineX and have them install the stock airbox back, but I thought I'd give it another chance. I read on other threads that some CAIs needed the sensors tweaked somehow or something.

I'll post pictures if that'll help.

It might help, but not sure. I've never heard of this. Have you tried calling them and asking them whats up?

Actually, LineX called K&N for support (I was there, we were both trying to figure it out) and K&N basically said that the battery needed to be disconnected for a whole hour. We did that and still nothing changed. They then said that some cars can't take CAIs and no more help from them. Sounds like BS to me, how can a car not take a CAI that was designed for it?

Thats kinda ghey, that they didn't help out. Anyway, I just thought of this out of the blue... so don't ask how I remembered it. what about getting a dyno tune? Do you think that might help? Just a thought.

From the pics, what is the sensor that is mounted on the plastic intake tube behind the MAF, and is that a stock MAF housing?

That would be the air temp housing stuff. The '99 and '00's ahd them there, but the '01's + had them integrated in the MAF.

I had the stock air box put back and everything is back to normal. The check engine light is off. I don't understand why it is not working. LineX told me they've installed tons of CAIs and have never seen this. I asked if the CAI might be defective, and they said it is very unlikely as it's not really a mechanical part and nothing looks wrong on it.
