I installed my 9 psi KB kit a while ago and have been having tons of fun since. I do have some questions regard boost, my boost gauge etc. that I do not understand.

When cruising in lower rpm's I see no boost. When I step on it I will start to see boost. But, in 1st gear my boost gauge is barely coming up to 0, in 2nd and 3rd I might get it to 4-5 and in 4th I get closer to the 9 psi that the kit is rated at.

I was under the impression that this kit would give me 'instant full boost' I was not aware that it was only in 4th gear. I asked KB about this and this is what they answered me:

If you ever get the chance to see a dyno run all the way through the gears, you will see the horsepower increase for each gear. There is less horsepower because of the gearing and torque multiplication. This phenomena holds true for boost as well. It requires less hp in each gear (lower) since a lot of the work is being done by the gears. Once there is a 1:1 ratio, this is where the most hp on the dyno will be seen. After the 1:1 ratio is exceeded, say .60:1 in overdrive, the horsepower to the wheels will decrease, but the boost begins to increase. The engine now is required to do the most work (the most airflow) at WOT, so the higher the gear, the more boost.

is this correct? Can someone with a KB tell me if this is how your system works aswell?

Thanks. Joe

So 1st is just ABOUT as fast as normal???No boost equals no more power right, unless it brings it up to normal outside pressure then I guees you would see a little extra.I know blowers give more boost under a load but man that seems crazy LOL.0 boost in 1st kinda sucks, maybe thats why people with KBs stay with the 3.27s.

It's correct, boost comes under engine load, so there is more load on 4th gear than on 1st because of the gears demultiplication.
but still... I get instant 10psi boost on any gear, even 1st. The stepper gears are just tire spin, that's all...
Your psi sound wierd

Are you nailing the throttle in 1st or 2nd or are you just giving it part throttle? You wont see full boost unless you have the throttle completly open, then boost will vary depending on engine rpm.

I have a 7psi kit and I see boost when ever I give it enough throttle. He only had that car in 1st, he barely made it to 30mph. The boost is still impressive, I wish I could run that much boost. Could someone tell me the reason for being in first, I am assuming he wasn't dynoing it, just f*ing around. Pretty cool though.

that is a monster

Hey, mrpositraction, did you figure out what was wrong with your kit? and how is it running with 7psi. I was thinking about putting on the 7# pully, but am not sure about it as a daily driver.

My kit will be on next weekend. i was going to put it on this weekend, but realized the plastic nipple on the end of the bypass valve cracked off during shipping. they are sending me a new nipple this week.

I have the 14# pulley for a daily driver and have no issues what so ever, I also see instant boost no matter what the gear, that's the fun of being screwed
