Keep breaking 2nd gear

This is the 3rd time this trans has done this. Strips the teeth parts the connect to the syncro and cracks the gear itself into 2 pieces, like the part that connects to the shaft disconnects from the teeth them selfs. Anybody else had this happen to them? Me and my tranny buildider are trying to fiqure out what happens. The car has a King Cobra clutch and a B&m Ripper shifter. Heres a pic of the car, i wish i would of took one of it cracked around the shaft parts.

What gears are you replacing it with. The upgrade stuff for the T'5's have different amounts of teeth on the countershaft. So you have to change out 2nd gear also.

AH, its weak T-5's, I broke 3rd gear 4 times, on the same trans, good thing it was under warrenty from the transmission shop. It was a pain to take out the trans that many times, Its like from now on any mustang I get, I swear first mod G force trans, that way you can really bang gears.

How much power are you putting throught it?
Do you power shift the car?
People like to say a t5 will put up with alot of power, but those people usually aren't beating the hell out of the car.
I ruined a perfectly good one, 2 weeks after my h/c/i swap.
I didn't waste any money on another t5, went to a tremec.

Turns out it was the shifter letting me over shift it. Got stop bolts now for it. GOt it all back together for $190. He put a Black gear inside the tranny for the speedo. and Told me i needed a 18 tooth for the inside, The car has 3.73s in it. Does that sound right?

Black is 6-tooth drive gear, i beleive that is right.

Yep, 6 tooth gear, I put a 18 driven gear in it and works prefectly fine now. Thanks.

It's good that you figured out what was causing that particular problem, but I wouldn't spend anymore money on stock t5 parts. I believe I read somewhere that you're running a 150 shot? I wouldn't expect stock t5 parts to last very long behind that, mine broke with a stock motor. Next time go with an Astro Performance or G-Force gearset.

How reasonable cost-wise is it to upgrade with astro performance or g-force parts? I love the way my t-5 shifts v.s. a tremec, and would really like to stick with the t-5 after my current one pops.

Most the time i only run a 125 shot, and dont spray it out of the hole. The t-5s are so cheap to fix thats why i still run it, maybe if i get some extra money ill go with a G-force or astro but the car is a daily driver so cant have it down for long.

As far as cost, the gear set is $1100. It includes mainshaft gears, countershaft, and a 26 spline input shaft. With the gearset, synchros, bearings, a pretty nasty clutch, and shipping I paid about $1600. Worth it to me to not have to change anything else ie:bell housing, shifter, yoke, crossmember, etc. The t5 is lighter and shifts much better than tremecs like mentioned above.

As far as noise, I still haven't gotten the thing together. Haven't had a whole lot of time to work on it. I can say the gears look like they're probably going to be a little noisy, but the Astro guy I talked to when I bought mine said they're not loud at all, and quieter than g-force. I don't really care either way.
