Kenne Bell or NOT? What to buy

umm im pretty sure the kb makes a lot more heat than a cent. they make less heat than a roots type i htink thats what youre confusing it with. same deal with the horsepower used to turn the pulley.

Kenne Bell & everyone who has reveiwed them said they don't make as much heat as a centrifugal & I'm not gonna argue with them about it.

And, who was it that sounded worried about loosing "grip" in 3rd gear?

haha, it was me and you have me confused. I'm looking for reasons to get the Kenne Bell, and that was a reason I was looking forward to hearing. I cant even imagine how much fun it would be messing with people with a stealthy yet reliable blower. So what does the blowzilla usually go for $$ ?

So if KB's are so good how come so many others are running vortech and ATI?
One reason is that Vortech and ATI have been around alot longer than Kenne Bell. And number 2 Kenne Bell still can not top the top dawgs when it comes to racing. Another reason is that many find Kenne Bell to be outrageously priced. Generally, people feel that they can get superior performance from a cent blower and a cheaper price. Aesthetics is another reason why one would choose a centr over a KB, lets face it, Kenne bell looks kind of gay under the hood. There are lots of reasons. KB is good, but not perfect, nor intended for everyone.

KB and your typical centrifugal have about the same efficiency. Meaning that at similar levels the charge temps will be about the same. If I remember correctly both blower types run about 150* charge temps in the 7-8 psi boost range. They both shoot up in temperature drastically after that. You dont have to argue about them. But you cant make any claims until you have installed a charge air temp gauge in your car, and reported us your temps.

Well put. I can however provide some sort of daily driven guidline. With my current setup, I'm running 9 lbs of boost, 12* base timing, 91 octane gas, and no timing retard. For a street blower, it's exactly what I was looking for. :nice:

I'm not trying to insinuate anything, only stating Kenne Bell are as "Probably better" than anyother & they do whine much louder than one of them doughnut blowers :D

PS: Kenne Bell do offer a 28# Blower aswell & from my experience I havn't seen another company offer a Super Charger or Blower @ that with that much boost :flag:

Got the charger installed last night, but now I have one question, when I get on it for a couple of sec's my check engine light will come on, but will go back off when I go back to normal driving, and it will also hesitate when the light is on.

Sart by checking for vac leaks. I've discovered that even a small one can cause havock. You may also need to swap around various vac lines from one spot to another to get everything smooth (I didn't have to but I've heard it said before). Also: Make sure that your MAP sensor is not seeing ANY boost (assuming you're running SD of course).

would it be the o2 sensors not being able to keep up, other than the check engine light coming on and off, this thing is one heck of a pick me up. lol its like my car has had one helluva hit of crystal. LOL Definately feel the power increase. Would 3.73's be to much with the charger, or will it make it break and spin entirely to much.

It's 'possible' that your 02 sensors could be going bad but it's not a matter of an 02 sensors ability ot 'keep up'. I've got no such problem with my install. In other words: You may have had the aproblem already but your blower intall has brought it into the light.

Hey Ray...

You gonna keep the functionality of that ram air hood with your KB install?

Ohh you know it, I wouldn't bought no supercharger without a way, matter of fact I didn't even know there even was one out there that could till I seen the Kenne Bell & that's what sold me & I bought one ;)

The vortech V4 X-trim makes 29#s of boost.

I didn't read the other posts (too many and I'm lazy), but I'll offer this.

If you plan on racing and want to add more and more boost as time goes on, I'd say centrifical blower (ATI/Paxton/Vortech) is the way to go. The KB will make awesome power, but as boost goes up in the KB scenario the toque goes up too. At some point you will have a VERY hard time controlling the car due to the massive ammount of torque you wil have. The centrifical blower is softer down low in the revs so it'll launch easier and be more predictable.

This isn't just me speculating either. At my local track (NYIRP in Leicester, NY) there is a guy that races from Buffalo (Joe Zito) he has the fastest KB car in the country and he has removed the KB and gone to ATI (I think) because it's more controlable in his car. His words from a conversation I had with him at the track. Go to http://www.kennedysdynotune.com/Sexy Stangs.htm to see more about his car.

Now if you go to a full chassis car, all that goes out the window. The KB is the way to go. I you're going for a strong street car, KB is still the way to go.

Never said they were the best (may or may not be) but eitherway they rank with the best & as you stated they create more torque & you know as well as I do torque meens more than horsepower, how many of us are running 28/29#'s of boost anyways, by then you should be running twin turbos :nice:
