Kick panel speakers

Okay, I'll tell.

They're little ceiling medallions - normally used for making ceiling fan and hanging light bases look fancy.

The edge of the speaker grille fits above the middle rounded spot.

It will bring the speaker forward 5/8".

And they're plastic so I don't have to do any shaping or smoothing.

(Oh, and my mom gets credit for the idea)

OK, you (and youre mom) need to get some kind of award for this...
...cuz that beats the hell out of making rings, streching head liner foam over, coating them with glass and sanding and priming, etc... (thats how ya make those neat custom boxes ya see in competition by the way)

They won't sound like crap because you won't hear them unless you turn your fader to the frt. which loses all of your bass that you should be getting from the trunk but you have boxes anyway and no this is not a run-on sentence I don't care what the English majors say and who are they anyway to criticize us just because........

Fader has nothing to do with turning the volume up. All it simply does is turn the volume down to the speakers being faded away. (Does that make sense ??) An encloser of some kind with plenty of support and one that angles it to the driver it the most desired design. I built my "rings" as a temporary piece so I could have some front staging. I wasnt going to pay $400 for Car Toys to build me some fiberglass kicks'. Since I mounted external tweeters in cups ontop of my rings, I got PLENTY of front staging. I know it's not the best way to go, but with windows down, loud exhaust, very little sound deadning, driving down the highway, all you really need is plenty of power and just crank it up. A car with no A/C and dumped Flows does need too much staging.

BTW, my friend has the "preformed speaker kickpanels" that you get at these Mustang places and runs Rocker Fosgate speakers in his 68'. Just alittle FYI.

mfp4073, those are from Home Depot. They're used to seal vents passing through the roof of your house. I cut the raised portion off, trimmed them to the depth I wanted and epoxied it to a spare set of original kick-panels. I fit the speakers I'm using, then finished them by covering them in vinyl. Problem is my buddy liked them so much I sold them to him and now have to make another set form myself

No problem. Hows every one down there in the MFMC. Used to be part of the club when I lived in Winter Park. Kinda miss it, having the year round cruises and meetings. Do you guys still have the 2nd Saturday meetings at the Casselbury Commons (Publix parking lot)?

Yeah, we/they are still going strong. I have not been active for a few years now as work and stuff has interferred. Used to do the altamonte steak n shake cruise night and would run out to oldtown from time to time. My car is kinda a wreck in the paint and body area these days, I am embarrased to take it to a cruise

These aren't even cut out for the speakers and no template & no mounting holes. Cheap plastic & certainly not worth the $120.00. I thought I would at least get an enclosure that had good acoustic capabilities without having to buy more material to pack it. In my opinion $20.00 would have been a good price for this product.

Thats a lot of money for something with no speakers. I am thinking that the setup that chelle came up with and the addition of a directional mounted tweeter would work pretty well. $6 for the pair of rings, $25 for the kickpanels and then whatever you want to spend on speakers is not too bad.

That's a good idea. If I don't like how my speakers sound with just the straight spacers, I might go that route.

Oh, and if anyone's curious, I got the screw holes drilled in the spacers, have them lightly sanded, and tomorrow (hopefully it will warm up a little) I'll paint them black. I think I'll use some of that cast iron textured spray paint. That should come pretty close to matching the texture of the speaker grilles and I think I already have a can of it around here somewhere.

I used the template with my speakers and centered it on the medallion as perfectly as I could.

I drilled the holes in that medallion using the drill press (love that thing!) and then stacked the medallions and used the 1st one as a template for the other one. And of course I test fitted them with the speaker grills to make sure everything lined up correctly.

One thing your trying to eliminate is the sound waves from the rear of the speaker mixing with the front waves. Will sound like mush and wont be loud at all. If you dont believe me, set your speakers in the floor and listen to them. Will sound like crap.

He got some off of Ebay. We bolted them together and then covered the back in Dynamat.

Since you like the home inprovement stores If you have a Lowes,go to the roofing sectiona and look for a small (1 sq ft) box called Seal n Peel,it a asphalt based roofing material with a sticky back and roungh surface and you can sound deaden behind the kick panel.Its the came basic stuf as Dyna Mat but cost A LOT LESS
