kill switch for anti-theft?

Hey guys I want to do a kill switch for my car sense I have so much money invested into it. I was wondering what power source I could tap into. I read that the green wire going to the inertia switch can be used. Any other ideas? Also, where is a good spot to hide the switch? Thanks for any ideas!

PATS system is pretty tough to beat without having a programmer to turn it off which takes time and crooks don't like sitting in your car too long. They will move right on to the Honda Accord instead.

This is why theft for cars with PATS went way down.

If they want your car that bad, they will tow it.

However one of the best ways to set up a kill switch is to put it right on the dash.

Find an option you don't have, say fog lights for example, get the factory switch for that option wire it to your kill line and install it right on the dash.

To a crook it will look like a regular option switch.

Find a wire going to the ECM that when disconnected causes the car to not start.
With older Dodge's we used to break the line to the pickup in the distributer.
The car will crank but not start.

Other than that, LoJack is a good choice.

You can also mount a flashing LED that does nothing but flash.
This will make the crooks think you have an alarm.

All this stuff will slow down the amateur crooks but like I said, if they really want your car they will tow it.

They can't start your car without the key, so don't bother. Just get a Viper 5900 SST; it tells you when someone is messing with your car, that way you can run out in the middle of the night and get beat up.

For my friends Civic, we wired in a toggle switch to his fuel pump, and hid it behind his dash. Easy to get if you know where it is, but somewhat hard if you don't know what to look for. He also has a pedal lock on his clutch.

I have got the 5900 SST- its pretty bad ass. If the alarm is going off there is no way to start the car. They would have to do a lot of rewiring to get the thing to turn over IF they had my keys...

You could always disguise it like something. Make the switch look like a cigarette lighter, if you don't use the 12v aux port. :nice: Or you could always use a programmer to permanently dissable your TC, then use that button as the switch.

Hide it in plain sight.

Hell use the dome light switch.

Hi Tanner,
The very first "mod" I did for my car was have a good quality alarm installed back in 2001. When I was a kid I had a car stolen so I'm all for alarm systems.

Most alarms are going to stop the average crack head...but that's as far as they go. A good professional car theif will get past most alarms, including mine. The more money a car is worth, a better alarm is warrented.

If I had your car, I would run, not walk to the nearest Lojack installer. Pay the $800 or whatever it is and sit back and relax.

A pro thief after a high end car works like this:
car is parked in targeted area or home
spot made my theif or accomplice in ring
the flatbed is called to the area
what looks like a normal but fast effecient tow is made on target car
car is towed away with no attempt to start it
car is transported to a clearing house*
if car survives 24-48 hours in clearing house, the car is recovered by theifs
car is stripped of all parts of value
shell is towed away & disgarded
parts are sold to unscrupulous repair shops or others

* clearing house is a place where a newly stolen car is taken and monitored for police. Theifs must check to see if a Lojack is installed and since it may take a long time to find (if they ever do) the car has to be assumed to have one.

The Lojack will be turned on by police when you report the car stolen. They can and will recover it for you in most cases.

Let us know what you decide.

Not in tx,If you have your concealment license, its is perfectly legal to shoot anyone on your property that poses a threat to you or your property at night time.:D as long as its not in the back.lol.I love that law.:nice:
Has caused a big decrease in burglary.Mine hasnt been broken into since and before that I got hit at least once a year if not 2 or 3 times and that is with alarms, they just dont care if it goes off here.Hell when they hit my truck they actually took the time to unbolt the amp and sub,but ripped the head unit out.
