Kind of upset...

Just spoke to another mustang owner in my apartment complex and i mentioned i was bringing mine down in a few weeks and i was worried about theft. He said that i have reason to be. Someone attempted to break in to his 08 gt twice in the last 6months, he now rents a small garage. He also stated there is a nismo 370z that had its rims stolen about 5 times and that there was times there was cars on blocks in the parking lot...

Now im scared to even bring it down for 2 weeks to take care of inspection crap...

DO you think my car would be a target for theft??? I mean if someone wanted something all they would have to do is cut the top and unhook the pins..

I honestly dont think it looks great and is worth anything to anyone but myself.

Yes, it would probably be a target in an apartment complex parking lot IMHO. Afterall, it's a 'stang and is therefore going to "stick out" and attract a little bit of attention - both the good kind and the bad kind.

If you must keep it outdoors in the lot for a short length of time, use a car cover on it at night (or in the daytime as well if it's a 2nd vehicle). Keep it locked, use an alarm (if equipped), consider wiring in a kill-switch, pull fuel pump fuse or ign coil/distrib wire, etc, etc. Keep a multi-layered approach to your security plan and keep insurance on it in case it DOES get stolen.

Remember, if a thief wants the car bad enough, they are probably going to take it. Other than that, keep your fingers crossed if your neighborhood is getting hit often lately.

Idoit's who steal crap off cars just steal stuff regardless of actual value. It sticks out, and they are going to take your wheels at least.

A buddies dad kept having his dog dish hubcaps stolen. He ended up tack welding some razor blades around the inside of the hubcap and making a slight ding on the outer edge of the cap that was free of razors to know were to pry them off. After a week he had one stolen and blood on his rim the other 3 remained on the rims.

Thieves suck. Like said if they want something bad enough they are going to get it. Do you know anyone that would let you keep it somewhere more secure?

I wouldnt risk it Adam. At the very least I would expect a slashed top. Sounds like the people in your neighborhood have nothing better to do with their time.

I agree with the car cover thing, if it's outside. I did a similar thing when I lived in Charlotte. Also, locking lug nuts are a good investment for your wheels, and maybe a steering wheel removal or lock. Though if you are worried about someone taking it for a joyride, just unplug the fuel relay and they will be trying to crank the car all day. The fuel pump won’t run and they won’t be taking that ride after all. View attachment 192569 Good luck!

I know how to disable a car thats not the issue. Locking lugs are very easy to remove.

Im just worried about someone going oooo look $700 worth of gauges... Slashing the top and grabbing them.

Ive heard of this.. ive also heard the of person stealing the hubcaps suing the person who put them on his car.

He worked for a forklift company in downtown STL...this was in the early 90's. I saw the blood believe it or not.

Either way, it would be a LOT less BS involved if you either just find another area to park your car in or see about renting a storage shed that a car will fit into for a month.

damn. sounds like you should start looking for another crib.

maybe we should switch cars (mustangs) and accidentally leave the keys in it. that way i won't have to bother with trying to sell mine. :wink:

then all i have to do is make sure it is insured for enough

but seriously, if you need a safe place to park it for few days, i can check with the wife about stashing it at my place. let me know

There's really not much you can do, short of getting a new place. Thieves will get it if they want it bad enough. An alarm, parking in a readily viewable area that the thieves don't have anywhere to hide, and making sure your insurance coverage is paid up are about all you can do.

That only works on Foxes, not the SN95 models. The fuel pump relay is inside the CCRM.

Most thieves are opportunity thieves. They take what they can get quickly. Complicated wheel locks are a huge help. Sure you can get through them, but it takes too much time. Having a convertible top makes almost no difference. It's not like they are going to steal the top. Cutting it is not as easy as it sounds, and even if you cut it, it wouldn't make it any easier to get into the car. It's much easier to bust out a window then to cut a convertible top.

rent a garage or move. Apartment complexes suck! I will never live in one again. Maybe some places are different but I had issues with theft at mine too. After getting my stereo, some tools and my wiring harness cut. I paid the extra to have a garage and no more issues. good luck

Money is an issue right now. Im paycheck to paycheck. Student loans are killing me.

Ill probably just leave the car up here in NJ... I just need to have to down there for a week to get inspection taken care of. Then it can sit in my parents garage till i come visit it on the weekends. MD only gets the focus which as already been keyed when i lived by AC in NJ.

I had to use storage when i moved...$1 for the first month. Dunno if you need it long term but just throwing that out there.

Now i have never tried to break into a vert by cutting....but i have cut some pretty durable materials. If i was a thief i would much rather deal with cutting a top versus breaking a window. Sure you arent going to cut it with kitchen scissors or a dull knife...but a sharp/heavy duty blade or cutting shears will make quick work of a top...in complete silence. With a window you have to have the sound of it breaking and the mess.

Someone go find a thief and ask em
