Alright as stated before I have a rear gear question. I'm doing my budget 289 build until i get the cash for the 351w. It will consist of:

289 9.3:1
Weiand Stealth intake
600 cfm holley
.496 lift 225 deg of duration at .050 rpm range 2500-6000
C4 with custom tailored converter

redline of about 6K. All street use, but not freeway. I have another car to commute with. I was thinking 3.80 gears but it's a little deeper than most of you recommend. On the other hand most of you recommend higher gears that are concerned with freeway. I think this oughta get me in the 14's right?

I live 20 miles from anything so big gears are out for me. I used to live in the middle of everything and ran 4.62 gears with a 28" tall tire. It was no big deal because the 45mph was the highest speed limit around. It did suck though because if I wanted to take my car 30 or 40 miles away it was a pain. There are speed calculators around the web, use one to determine rpm's you'll be turning at speed. IMO, You'll have it wot for1% of the time or less, so why gear it for that. I'd comprimize for a friendlier car the other 99% of the time and get closer to 3.50. The key is only you know what most important to you, what you can put up with and how the car will be driven. I have a 3.08 in mine, so I'm at the other end of the scale.
