I have a '00 gt with a vortech. It makes 395rwhp.The car has only 6000 miles on it.The factory clutch doesnt slip off the line but it slips slightly when I shift into the next gear. Before I put the blower on it would chirp the tires into third gear but now it slips slightly.I drag race the car and I run drag radial tires. Will a king cobra clutch hold up at this power level? I dont drag race alot just on occasion. Is there anything else I need to upgrade? (the quadrant ,cable, an adjuster on the firewall? Thanks for the info

Stay away from the King Cobra. People seem to have random luck with thiers. Mine lasted a whopping 1500 miles and I disintegrated the pressure plate during a hard 3-4 shift. I had the flywheel turned and everything. This was when I was NA as well. I'm running a Spec stage II and it's a much better unit than the King Cobra. The clutch effort to push the pedal on the King Cobra was also much heavier than the Spec for some reason.

And yes I highly recommend changing out the clutch cable with an aftermarket unit with a quadrant. My steeda cable lasted me 3 years, now I have replaced with a Granetelli Motorsports cable/quadrant setup. It seems like most aftermarket cables last a short time as well.

Are you sure you know what you're talking about? Stage II is fine, 3 or 4 are rated for much higher hp applications, and would be overkill. Stage 3 and 4 are very sensitive clutches and grab very fast, like an on-off switch. Streetability suffers and the snapping action of the clutch puts strain on stock drivline components.

Spec Stg 2 is good to what 400-450RWHP? Thats why I went with the stg 3.

I havnt drove the car yet with it, but pedal effort is maybe slightly stiffer than stock..not bad at all.

I had a king cobra in my car and then I put on the supercharger and the clutch started slipping so I got a spec stage 2. Do it right the first time and get a better clutch then the king cobra. Don't forget to resurface the flywheel or buy a new one.

King Cobra is an OEM+1 clutch. It won't grip much better or last much longer than a stock clutch. I wore one out in 7 months of daily driving plus weekend drag racing. Plus the King Cobra pressure plate makes for a really heavy clutch pedal.

I've had my bad experiences with SPEC clutches. I've been totally happy with my Centerforce clutch.
