Man i am buggin out! I have just read the disturbing thread by Beefcake ( http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=167953 ). I really wanted to put L/T on my ride but after reading that i don't think its worth my motor. I was wondering has this prob occured with shortys, and how much h/p difference is between the shortys vs L/T? If i do go with L/T i will prob discontiue all the EGR stuff, and doing so how will it effect my motor?

Just stay away from MAC LT's and don't lower the car. I run shortys and I love 'em. Of course the LT's do provide a little more gain than the shortys.

Do you have smoke issues with your shortys? and also were you able to install them with the motor still bolted in?

No smoking at all. I had Ford install them while the motor was out having other work performed. I believe they can be installed without having to remove the motor though.

I have the MAC's and love em.....10x better then my BBK's.

the smoking issue was from the first issue of them that still had casting residue left over that got into the valves.

Do NOT waste your time with shorty's. They have been proven time and time again to not be worth the money and time. The install is still a pain as LT's and the gains aren't even close. The LT's make more power throughout the powerband. Sorry 600-800 bucks for 5-8 rwhp is not beneficial unless you like dropping coin.

I actually saw great gains with my JBA shortys.

U.M.

Run #1 was CAI / catted X-pipe / Cat-back

Run #2 shows my gains after installing the JBA shortys. 13 RWHP & 31 RWTQ. *Note* I had the car re-tuned to take full advantage of the headers at the time of this pull.

Run #3 is the addition of a 2.93 pulley and a C&L intake tube.

Yes JBA are a little better, but LT's will always yield better gains for the price too. Then again 03+ Cobras damn near get 50 hp from K&N's Your typical NA 96-01 won't see that kind of gain.

Don't buy MAC L/T's. I have had my BBK's on my 96 Cobra for 24,000 miles (7 years) No oil burning, no problem, great ground clearance. Even if I lowered it, I would still have ground clearance. I didn't get my car dynoed before and after the L/T's, just after the blower, so I don't know of any gains, but I was running 4-5 tenths faster at the drag strip then all the stock Cobras my year.

You can expect most shops to charge anywhere from 350-600 or so in labor. I paid 350 to have my long tubes installed. Keep in mine shorty's are just as much a pita to install as long tubes, so you really are only saving money on the cost of the headers. To many including myself, it is not worth it.
