Largest rear tire size?

Hey guys,
I've got a 1988 GT with stock springs and 16 x 8" Centreline Sabres. The inner wheel wells were also slightly massaged for running slicks, but I don't know by how much.
What is the largest width and height tire I can go with on the rear of my Fox with these rims?

O.k., I've got some more info. The guy I bought the car from says he had fit an
11" slick in the rear wells. I searched the forum for info but haven't come across the same situation. Any ideas for the widest/tallest tire would help. Thanks.

I think most people run a 26" tall tire on the Mustangs. IIRC, they also run a 10 or 10.5 wide tire.

The deciding factor will most likely be your wheels. If you stick with the 16x8's you won't be able to go as wide.

i have seen 305's on a fox with 03 cobra wheels. with 16's you are kind of limited on tires, i'd ditch them for a pair of 15's or 17's and go with a 275 for the tire width. if the previous owener fit 11'' slicks(which probly meant he had 26x10.5's) then you should have no problem with a 275/40/17, 275/50/15 or a 275/60/15. it also depends if you have quad shocks or not.
