LaRocca's Performance

Hey guys I had been in the search for a shop to take the car and went to check out LaRocca's Performance in Old Bridge, NJ near Raceway park  ....Anyways the outside appearance of the shop didnt really impress me but once I spoke to one of the guys about what I wanted to do and what he recommend, etc. i realized this is the place for me. Real nice and honest they seemed. My car will definitely be going there within the next month.

They convinced me instead of going with Maximum Motorsport stuff to go and buy Suspension stuff from Lakewood, FMS, and Eibach and save my money. They felt that it is as good and with MM your just paying for the name. I am gonna buy MM brake upgrade kit since i right now cant afford the FMS 5-Lug Conversion.

Sorry for such a long post but moral of the story is that anyone looking for a shop in NJ, Delaware, PA, and NY area LaRocca's seems to be a good place. Let the Modding begin....:nice:

Havent heard much about them but ive seen there stickers on many cars, and know the name is well known, dont live up there so i wouldnt have any expierence, goodluck.

it seems to be really hit or miss with laroccas...talk to blk91stang and he'll say nothing but good things...my buddy alex on the other hand has a 90 lx with a 347, and they burned the chip for the car before he bought it...the car runs like **** sometimes, and they want like $600 for a reburn...they seem to be fine for stuff like bolt ons, and great with poweradders, but not so great with NA cars...

Agreed. All I've heard are horror stories coming from that shop. This is why you just do it yourself or find a buddy/fellow stangnet member to help you or do it for you.

Really??? Myself including 5 of my friends go there for everything we need and NEVER had a problem. Sure there are a few bug-a-boos but they are always there to help and back themselves up. Theres a reason their in business and one of the top 5.0 tuners in the country....
Instead of just saying you "heard" horror stories or dealt with them, back it up with some claims/facts instead of spreading rumors. :nice:

CAMAROEATER01, I would recommend them to anyone as they will always give you good advice about anything, knows what works, and can tune with the best of them (and by this I mean specifically Jimmy LaRocca, the others are good but Jimmy is the best!)

Sure their a little biased towards Prochargers and everyone else who they deal with, but their stuff workds GOOD and shouldn't be taken with a grain of salt.

Beat me to it! My car had a similar problem as his buddy Alex had but the cause might have been my headgasket. Either way, I talked to Jimmy LaRocca and he took my car in the following week and personally tuned it himself for free and if I had anymore problems I should talk to him and he'll fix me up!

Maybe I just spent more money over there or something? :rlaugh:

Before I had my Fox tuned I was told by at least 3 people to stay away, based on bad experiences. Then over the past few years talking to people online and at shows hearing about how that place did a sh itty job on their blower cars. Two guys had their cars blow up the day after it was tuned. I'm sure their not hacks but there are better places to go. Not trying to take anything away from you though.

I would never take my car there, everyone I've talked to who had their car tuned there has had horror stories. If I was going anywhere in Jersey it would be to Wicked Motorsports. ALMOST, I'd hate to see a nice car like yours ruined there.

Hey cool man thanks for the compliment on the car and for lookin out. That made my day :nice: I still have a bit of time b4 the tune so I'll see what happens. Not to highjack the thread but are there any other shops around the area?

No never! Just trying to weed through the BS and find out what problems people are having with companies. I mean, thats why we're all here right???
Just kind of surprised people are having a bad time with them and not getting the support/performance they were promised since me and my friends have never had a problem with them.

I guess you win some and you lose some with every company right??

Blk91stang I believe I talked to Tom about my car who I think is Jimmy's father...not 100% sure....but what a straightforward and honest guy. He trully seemed to not want me to go waste my money on one part when i can get the same qualilty with a part that is cheaper. My dad came along with me to check it out and he was also impressed by there honesty and the suggestions Tom made. Will see how their work is  but i dont see a problem here.

Remeber guys everyone will have different experiences with shops....and ever shop that is around i have heard one or two horror stories but sometimes these stories get blown out of proportion and sometime it is the owner (aka us's fault) We sometimes have problems listening to a recommendation made by these experienced guys and when we dont listen and blow a motor will point our finger back at the tuner cause we would never blame ourselves....:rlaugh:

When I had my car tuned last week there was a 03 cobra in the shop that was just finished being tuned the day before and the owner didnt pick it up yet. The cobra had to have the motor completely rebuilt from a bad tune. My tuner said that the car was upgraded and tuned at a shop in NJ but he wouldnt say which one because he is not in the habbit of trashing other shops. He said ask the owner he'll tell you. The motor had to be rebuilt because of lean tune. The tuner said for as strong as those bottom ends are the only thing that can do that kind of damage is a bad tune. Any how after the rebuild the car dyno'ed over 600hp and tq. on a conservitve tune. I would ask around and find out as much as you can about the shop, and if they make you feel warm and fuzzy then go for it. Pro-Tune is the place that I go now and when I picked my car up he reveiwed every pull and adjustment with me so that I was clear on how he got to the final tune. That took like 30 minutes of his time alone but gave me peice of mind.

My previous owner had my car tuned at laroccas, i have never had experince with them but the tune cost my previous owner 600 and some change and the car has pretty bad surging problem, but my friend just got his 331 fox tuned at wicked and he said they were great. There are plenty of shops in Jersey check them all out. Not Crazy Horse tho.. I have heard horror stories about them like crazyyyyy

I dont think a surging problem woud be caused by the tune.....other than the surging how is the car
