Hey all,

Just thinking out loud here. I plan on keeping my car as a really nice daily driver for the next 20 years, it's a '93 notch. Has anyone considered any other 4cyl swaps just for fun? The Focus jumps to mind first but I'm sure Ford has several other nice 4 cylinder engines. Maybe I need to wait a few years and just keep working on the interior and suspension and wait for someone to do a nice 4cyl turbodiesel.

I'm just thinking of newer engines, smoother with maybe a little more power with equivalent or better gas mileage. I really want to just have a very nice DD with a reliable, peppy, and efficient engine. Thinking maybe there are other options!

Well, one option is the Duratech 4 cyl found in later Focuses, and in many mazdas. There is a company that makes a bellhousing that will adapt a T-5 to it. The main two problems you would have are the motor mounts and the wiring harness. You could use a megasquirt system to solve the latter, and use any fab skills to solve the former. It wouldnt be the easiest swap, but its much more doable than a turbo diesel. To make it even better, remember that mazda makes a turbo version of this engine, and its all aluminum, so IMO its the best current choice

What does Mazda put their aluminum turbo-4 in? Mazdaspeed3 and 6?

Yes the Mazda turbo engine is used in the the 3 & 6.

Megasquirt is a Standalone EFI system

sort of like a throtle body carb, that's fuel injected??

The Megasquirt is a homemade computer system designed for use a fuel injection control system.

The Ford Factory computers are encoded so you can easily modify them if at all.

By using a Megasquirt computer you can do pretty much whatever you want. If you take something like a 2.3L EFI turbo motor you can control every aspect of the fuel system.

Some of the guys on the fordsix.com forums are putting Tempo throttle bodies on a 200 I6 intake uisng a adapter and then controlling it with Megasquirt and getting really good gas mileage and driveability.

There are also adapters availible to mate the Megasquirt ECU to the 60 ford EEC harness, eliminating the need to rewire the car

Now that I didnt know and its good info. I have one of the Classic Inlines high swirl aluminum heads for my 3.3L I6 and plan of EFI and turbo and wanted to run a MS2 so knowing the harness is available is gonna help.
