Wal-Mart stocks CD2 brand lead substitute. I was using this stuff for a couple years on my 68 Merc's 390, and never had problems with it. Can't verify that it actually does what it's supposed to do though, & I'm not going to take the heads off anytime soon to see either. Just from past experience with their products, they make good stuff. The bottle has a "dose" chamber and directions for use. The whole bottle treats about 350 gals. and cost's less than $10.Fireman255 said:Do I need to put a lead addative in my gas? if so, how often and what kind?

umm lead is toxic.. stick with the substitue.D.Hearne said:Better to be safe than sorry........ if in doubt----- use it.
No, lead itself isn't toxic. Lead fumes and dust are. And where did I tell him to use a lead additive?THX 138 said:umm lead is toxic.. stick with the substitue.
lead is toxic. Installation of lead pipes in ancient Greece and Rome wiped out whole settlements. anyhoo... Now-a-days CO and cigerettes will no doubt do you more harm than the amount of lead around now but its still bad for you.D.Hearne said:No, lead itself isn't toxic. Lead fumes and dust are. In that case, the lead isn't what's going to kill you, the CO is going to do the deed long before the lead ever will.
