Lets play, what is this cut wire?

Looking around under the hood today i noticed a few things out of place near the starter solenoid on the drivers side fender. First, there is a thin red wire with a blue stripe (looks factory) that has been cut and is just sitting there, what is this? Second, there is a large gauge wire (not factory), going from the solenoid into the interior via the firewall grommet. WHat could this possibly be for? Any help appreciated

the large guage wire could have been from a large aftermarket stereo, although mine was wired directly to the battery with an inline fuse... try pulling up the drivers side carpet and then tracing where the wire goes. if it goes to the trunk/hatch, it was likely for big subs.

I think the small wire is the ignition wire that goes to the center stud on the starter relay.

Wouldnt the car not start without that wire hooked up to the solenoid? Car starts and runs fine. I should have clarified, the large wire is not like a stereo wire, not wuite that big. The car has a mini starter, could this explain these wires?

Mini starter uses the same wiring as a regular stater. Unless it was fabbed and not orig made for stangs.

mini starters require different wiring unless it came factory..i would make sure those wires are taped up and wont short out at the least

I may be wrong here but I thought the sn cars had what the factory called a "mini" starter but wired the same. It was smaller and lighter than the fox starter but fit the same with more torque. I know an aftermarket one would wire different or custom. (thats what I meant one my prev post)

The small red/blue wire goes two places on a stock Mustang: the small push on stud
for the starter solenoid and the TFI module. Both locations are energized only when
the key is turned to the Start position.

If it cranks with the key, no. Beware that someone may have bypassed it and the safety interlocks that it connects to.
