Let's Talk Combo Type Choices!

For the pump i wouldnt go that route, just have to remember to turn it on? And for the meth kit on a DD, it only comes on with a set amount of boost or RPM. Its completely tuneable. Meth can be corrosive but a 50/50 mix with water wich is what your'd be running with one of these kits shouldnt do anything. They claim it actually cleans out carbon :rolleyes:. Also the kit isnt on all of the time! you could have it come in at lower boost and yeah i would be seeing more HP/TQ but thats not what i set my car up for :D

EDIT: or add-on Im using my windshield wiper fluid resivoir so as far as maintenance goes, as easy as filling up your windshield wiper fluid! :D

On some of the old cars they used a pure water injection to stop detonation. Mine comes on at 6# of boost and gradually pumps more and more as the boost rises.

You could also do the MAF setting on the kit but the set up now is working pretty good. Methonal is pretty cheap too. one gallon should last me 5-8 months. I dont see 6#'s very often so it basically just sits there ;p

Im using Snow proformances kit and have had no problem with it.
AEM also makes a kit.

Back on the first page i have the red and green light on my Piller that shows "Green" when the methonal/water turns on and "Red" when the methonal is getting low.

I've seen some posts on here about people using the electic water pump on DD's, they had the pros and cons i think...been awhile since i've seen that post lol.

Seems like as it spins faster, it would cause more drain

I'd think the electric wp would be worth at least 10 rwtq average

turbos and blowers and such are really nice. grady you have a great n/a street setup in your car as well. given your goals and such, why not go with some good ole giggle gas. you wont have to change a thing to your combo. and if you got a timing retard on your car you can leave the dizzy where it is and when u turn the nitrous on, the ign box will retard the timing as needed. you will reach your goal that you desire, not loose any streetability or low end torque. when nitrous is right, its a great thing. and if you wanna go more, its as easy as swapping jets. also by far the least expensive. i read this entire thread and no real mention of good ole giggle gas.

several years ago, i knew a guy with a 92 gt with nothing more than a cai, and a o/r h and flowmasters that put around 360-370 rwhp and 492-500 ft lbs on a 175 shot. the car put around 220 to the wheels n/a. ive seen and remember the dyno sheets. that car was a beast on the gas. ive ridden and witnessed many a vette or 3 get spanked by his lil gt. i was not a fan of the giggle gas until his car.
 
i dont know about clogging, you are using 99.99% meth and distilled water. its a single line right into the intake, and if you use the same set up there is a nice screen in your resivour. The eletric pump is worth it, if you dont forget about it ;p

Can you explain how that works? They had to take timing from my car when they did it. Plus they said as a general rule of thumb, don't hit the juice below 3k rpm or you can grenade it. So I was driving around with a dog of a car below 3k. I hated it personally, so I ditched it after one run on the street.

I know it is much more reliable these days
but
I'm so old ... I was around when peeps started using it

I saw too many hoods ripped from the car and sent many feet straight up
I saw too many connecting rods hanging from the oil pan
I saw too many streams of oil down the track
I saw too ... etc etc etc

Besides ... I'm just too set in my ways :rlaugh:

things made out of metal and things you can see and hold in your hand ;)

Those of you who choose to use this method to make power

Go for it ... It just ain't the kinda thing I'm interested in

i know some ign boxes like the digital 6 have a i believe whats called a boost retard dial you can set up and the ignition box will retard the timing up to like 8 degrees. the numbers may be a lil inaccurate but i know that stuff is available.

i personally have never used nitrous on any of my cars. i have even seen where nitrous has made the car run better n/a cause it cleans the combustion chamber out

as far as ur situation, i would rather have a turbo even though its more work involved and more costly than a blower. blowers are so common it seems plus a turbo will be a lil more efficient. i know the blower guys will beg to differ. to each his own. plus theres nothing like the sound a turbo makes.

Yeah, i am not a big fan of nitrous either. I want to go fast WAY to often to rely on nitrous. I wanna spend the initial investment and never have to fill up a bottle. Go through the gears allllll day long. :D

As for the 175 shot, thats impressive, but that size shot on a stock motor seems kinda stupid. :shrug: :D

Maybe I am out of the loop, but I had always been under the impression that a 125 shot was about all you should do on our motor stock. Anybody?
 
ive personally seen up to 200 shot on stock short blocks. only on forged pistons and a much bigger fuel pump. i wouldnt recommend over the 200 and since nitrous isnt constantly used, its not as bad for the engine as one might think. ive seen it make a car actually run better n/a. the thing i like about nitrous is that you can hide it and totally mess with people. its quiet, and not very costly. as a matter of fact, theres a trash talker i work with that has a 04 g35 coupe that wants to run me from a roll. i know from a dig i can take care of him and probably could on a roll. i would like to have a nice lil 125 or 150 shot and really make him feel bad about himself just for ****s and giggles.

I'm mainly referring to what our motors can handle without doing anything else to them. No pistons no fuel upgrades. Whats the level for that?
 
bone stock with stock fuel pump depending on if the kit is a wet or dry kit would be 125 or 150 shot max. my friend with the 92 gt was running a dry kit meaning just nitrous. the plate bolted up right behind the tb. he had a switch mounted to the gas pedal that would only kick in at wot and shut off between shifts.

I can say I am really intrigued with what I've been finding about
using a Vortech blower

I can say I will be camping out in this territory for a while :D

I'm now just gathering data to confirm my suspicions ;)

Grady, I have never had a KB or a Centri-blower, however let me throw out my .02

For a street car, you dont want nitrous.... As im sure you have realized, its great for a nice drag run, but you cant play around like with boost on the street, plus its a pain to keep having the bottle filled, and you have ALL-or-Nothing power. I use a dual tune with my tweecer, but it has me looking for forced induction.

I had a twin turbo setup on my car, it was a pain in the ass (due to the designer, me) Kept burning plug wires, oil leaks, and boost leaks. However, when it was working good, IMO the BEST option, you get boost down low( I was hitting 10 psi at 2500~ RPM and holding till redline), you get a intercooler for less deto, and the BEST efficiency because your not dragging on your crank to drive it.

I know, I know you dont want a Turbo. Then your next logical choice is a Kenne Bell.... You want a fun street car, then like a turbo, you need that low end boost.

Also, Ive upgraded to a tremec transmission, but my little T-5 survived a year of turbo boost daily driven! I believe its because compared to nitrous, the turbos spool and make power with a softer hit. And i never powershifted, and street tires.
