if i really lay into it, around 4500 and above it starts to 'ping'. cant really make a good description of it. not really ping...rattle. i dunno. the car has 108k on it and never been into. doesnt smoke, runs smooth. no funny noises while idling and normal driving. if i mix a few gallons of 110 with a tank of 93, it wont do it. after i fill up several times after that, it starts again ( only done the 110 mix 3 times in 2 years )

this something to worry about? is it my lifters? is this this a problem?

thanks guys

Sounds like you have your timing set too high. What is it set at?

I agree with 04sleeper, sounds like pinging from too far advanced timing.

Pull that Hypertech chip out and I'll bet it goes away.

EDIT: For a better explaination, most aftermarket off-the-shelf chips advance timing to give you increased performance. The chip is probably advancing your timing too far, especially if you have set your base timing above 10*, to say 14* like lots of guys do.

i will have it checked tho just for the sake of argument. whats the stock timing suppose to be set at? how should i compensate for that with that hypertech chip. main question : what optimal timing can i run to where it wont do that??

if not timing, any other ideas?

The stock timing is 10 degrees with the spout out. Not sure what the Hypertec chip adds to it.

Try bumping it back 2 degrees at a time until it stops.

Are all of the tune up items in good working order?

What plugs are you running? What gap?

if it doesnt do it when i mix 110 in , wouldnt it be octane related?

Not really. It could just be covering up another issue.

I would do a good tune up. Autolite 25's, New wires, cap rotor.

Then go from there.

i already have a set of new fms 9mm wires at home . i can order a cap/rotor for around 20. plugs are prob 20 or less and i may get a coil.

i think i may try that...tune up. you think it may solve my problem? going to check the timing as well

I wouldn't worry about the coil.

Check the timing and see where it is set at.

I had the same thing happen to me. I ran 91 and it stoped so I checked the timing only to find it was at 13* with the spout out

could also be a biuldup of carbon on top of the pistons causing it to have more compression
