Lifter problem

Any time an engine is making a noise it shouldn't you are playing Russion Roulette. No mechanic can estimate how long an engine will last making improper noises and one who claims he can should be avoided. You should fix your problem as soon as possible or accept the fact that the engine could go at anytime.

The last time I ignored a ticking because it was inconvenient to fix I lost the whole engine very shortly afterwards. 65fastback2+2 had a lifter ticking problem also and it turned out to be completely shot cam bearings making the oil pressure so low that the lifters could not stay pumped up properly. If he had not brought his car to me to change the cam and lifters when he did I don't think the engine would have lasted much longer.

I say agin, if it is the lifter and not some other internal part, he has time since the application of whatever product relieved some of the tick. It may actually correct itself if the partial collapse was caused by an oil blockage. Apples and oranges are being compared here.
