in the middle of my cam swap and im doing the valve train right now (svo 1.6 ped mount roller rockers). i got the rockers on, with the right preload for the lifters, but when i was all done i decsided to push on each rocker periodically as i was turning over the motor and i noticed that there where about 5 or 6 rockers that i could push on and with a some pressure i could depress the lifter by hand (alittle)!?! my question is, should i be able to do this by hand? i do know that you couldn't always push the lifters down it just happened every once and a while. (on a side note the motors been sitting for 2 weeks so the lifter arn't completely full of oil). what do you guys think?

As with your last sentence...this is somewhat normal when an engine sits for a little bit of time. They {lifters} tend to 'bleed' down, thus allowing you to 'push' on the rockers and they give a bit. When you finish your install and first crank/start the engine...don't be alarmed at the lifter/rocker chatter you'll hear. After a short while the lifters will pump up to normal and the chatter will disappear.

Hope this helped.

well i tried soaking 2 of my lifters in engine oil over night to see if this would help the problem and i was still able to depress the lefters by hand. does this mean they are bad?

The proper way to pump them up is to submerge them in oil, then push the plunger in and out with a pushrod until they firm up and you can no longer collapse them.

When a couple of my lifters went bad I was able to depress them by hand even after letting them sit in oil.
