So my Cobra had a lot of parts to be removed for polishing (parts such as the upper intake, lower intake, valve covers, throttle body, cold air intake to name a few). It has sat in a barn for a year without me putting it back together due to horrible time constraints and unavoidable scheduling (job) mishaps. I have since moved from the state due to employment and my buddy took my Cobra to a very well known and reputable Mustang only shop.

They have pulled my engine and it has been determined that there is corrosion on the heads and has been determined on the pistons and within the heads.

So...my trouble is this. They need to replace the heads...and are offering Trick Flow heads and stroked to a 347. To put my engine back together, and put these heads on and get everything assembled...we're talking 6000-7000. Any thoughts?

I dont think sitting like that would cause the need for all this work. Maybe if there was ALOT of water getting into the motor....but nothing that some priming/tsp of oil down the plug holes and a few manual turns of the crank couldnt solve...

Me thinks shop wants to make a quick buck.

I pulled my heads one winter and with the car outside and a plastic trashbag and a towl (on top of the trashbag) it sat outside with heads on the first half but no intake and the heads off the second half. It ran fine other than the dead cyl. I was dealing with as I was told at first it was a HG sealing issue but after getting it back together it was also a ring issue from a n2o backfire.

I know people who have started car that sat in barns for over 5yrs but put oil in each plug hole and turned it over by hand after priming the oil pump (after changing the oil too)

define corrosion? rust?

I don't see why this would happen. my car sat outside last winter, no barn, just the hood doing its thing. my smog pump seized, but that's it. It seems to me that any corrosion inside the chamber/on the piston would be burnt off really fast upon starting the car up...

sounds fishy to me. 6-7000 isn't a terrible deal for a 347 installed...but I'd be weary about letting a builder go nuts on one without telling me everything that's going into it...I also wouldn't be using TF heads on a 347 at that price...

I dunno...well not stock TFS heads, buddy has a very well built 347 with some REALLY worked TW (done back in the late 90's) that flow over 300cfm (again back in the late 90's). The porter to this day says those are one of the best jobs he has ever done (and this guy IS the 03-04 "apten" guy). The car ran a 12.00 at 124 blowing the c4 at the 1/8 and riding the brakes threw the traps. I rode in it one night against a 11.2 car. The we started out not aligned in the lane and spun to 8k in first and at 7k in second we got traction and COUGHT and was pulling on the 11.2 car by 6k in 3rd  . The guy looked over and his jaw dropped :jaw: . This 347 has over 20k in it too.

holy ****. do you know the specifics in the valvetrain? stock tach or aftermarket? I'd assume aftermarket. I'm actually really interested in the setup if you know. springs especially...

The port job on the heads was like 6k IIRC alone not even with the cost of heads they flowed like 290-300int and 325 or vise versa or something. It was a carbd' car (in an 82 fox) with a matched intake (not sure on brand). The porter did up and orderd a custom cam and valvetrain setup (tit. components) not sure on the specifics numbers of the valvetrain as it was all matched buy the porter. JE pistons, Oliver rods, the crank was from Racers or Razers edge (some nascar brandname). The tach was a Auto Meter memory pro comp.

they're trying to hose you. I have a carport, not a garage. and my car sat for a 10 months without an upper or lower intake, when it got rainy, I used a ****load of WD-40 on it. I started my car 2 weeks ago and it ran fine! Well, at idle at least, I have a lifter problem and that's why I left it for so long.
