Long tube header question...

Those of you who have long tubes, do you have to remove the headers in order to take the tranny out? I have shorties and am contemplating stepping up to long tubes but I'm wondering what kind of headaches go along with them? THX

Unbolt the motor mount nuts. Put a 2X4 under the back portion of the oil pan. Jack the motor up 3 inches. This should give you more wiggle room when dropping the headers in. On the drivers side remove the steering knuckle (its only one bolt) and move it out of the way. Depending how high you can get your vehicle in the air will decide if you install them up from the bottom or the top. Don't do it yourself have extra hands so you don't bang them around.

I have not tried to take the tranny out with long tubes still in. Im sure the tranny could come out pretty easy....its only 4 bolts. The bell housing might be more of a task to get out though. But again, i have never tried so i cant tell your for sure.

Besides, the sound and power gain makes it worth it!

I didn't have any troubles with my long tubes when i threw in the tko-600. I had more problems with the h-pipe and catback.

Like vib said your going to have more problems putting longtubes in then anything, but it can be done without too much hassle.

IMHO, no matter what the extra hassle is!

LT's are worth it for the extra low & mid range torque.

Just what a Street Car needs to be ... ?funner?

Ok, that one went over my head. I was in the Hospital yesterday for severe stomach flu (threw up 26 times) in which I dehydrated and collapsed. I'm way over do for a brain fart. I LOVE I.V.!

Thanks for the replies guys! I think zenboy had the right idea. I was wondering how difficult it would be to change out a clutch with the longtubes in place? I would hate to remove the headers just to drop the tranny. Would an x or h-pipe be better with the longtubes or is there much difference? Also, does anyone know if the longtubes will work with a T56 as that is what I want to get down the road?

The tranny wont affect long tubes...its more of the bellhousing. Im not sure as i have never looked into it. Just check a couple of the manufacturers to see. Not all long tubes are designed the same way. Accufab has one design for fox's and 94-95's and bbk/mac has 2 seperate designs.
