Are longtubes really worth the price difference over shorties?

What are the approximate power gains of each one?

I will have to buy a shorty x/h pipe as well as the more expensive longtubes.

IT even seems like it would be a better use of my money to get 4.10s and a tuner, spray, or something else, am I right here?

If you don't have gears i would recommend doing them first. I had my gears and LT's done like with in a month of each other. Do the gears/tuner(to correct the speedo) first then do the LT's. Yes the are DEFINATELY worth it. Shorties will be a waste. You could even sell your mac x-pipe and use some of that money to go towards a new midpipe. After all that do the N2O

Motive Bearing Kit (8.8in)

$74.99

SCT X3 PowerFlash Tuner and 4.10 Gear Kit

$539.99

SPEC Stage 2 Clutch

$334.99

SPEC Billet Aluminum Flywheel - 6 Bolt

$334.99

Black Mustang Bumper Insert Letters

$13.99

SLP Loudmouth Resonators (Shotgun-Style, Pair)

$139.99

Total: $1,438.94

That is my *revised* plan because my clutch hits really weak and I want gears. I would be taking off my flowmaster mufflers and replacing them with the loudmouths.

So basically that or LTs and shotry midpipe.

Or a 100 shot installed.

Well yea if your driveline is beggining to slip, fix that first. Also if your sticking with an o/r x-pipe(i would), then i would consider the lm2's but its up to you. My BBK lt's and midpipe totaled to about $550, then instal of headers< since i had no way of doing it , was $400. I would hold off on the nitrous until i got all the other stuff first.

I see a lot of improvement with your 2.4 60' time. Get that down and you could easily be mid 13s. Try investing that $1438.94 in driving lessons or sticky tires to make it easier.

If you want to go fastest for the least coin:
replace the clutch and turn your stock flywheel - 335$
Buy some take-off 17s and add MT or other sticky tires - 400$
Nitrous kit (125hp) with whatever safety stuff you want/need - $703.94

Total - $1,438.94

That should get you WELL into the 12s.

With the parts you have planned, I would expect mid-high 13s... which is exactly what you could do if you just got some sticky tires right now.

Don't get shorties.....LTs are fantastic. The priceless moments when the gas petal is to the floor, dollar signs don't mean a thing.

When you're looking at $/hp, shorties will bolt up to the midpipe you have now. Longtubes will require a new midpipe. The midpipe requirement is often overlooked.

IMO, NO offense at all, but I don't think this is that great of a idea......I mean if you just want to get into low 12's(for the experience, bragging rights, whatever) then yes, this would do the job.

But, is it worth the possible damage to your car? Slicks+Spay+hard launch = . Plus can you reproduce the track results on the street when the unexpected happens ?

This is just my opinion, and you can just take this with a grain of salt. But if I were you I would go the whole 9 yards; get the gears, nice exhaust setup, etc. and you and your car will thank you, and you can reproduce the results whenever you want/need to.

But again, it is your car, so do what ever makes you happy; I was just giving my 2 pennies on this...

either way, good luck!!

Sorry dont mean to inturrupt you guys but i didnt want to start a new thread and since you were already talking about LT's.... I have i 03 GT automatic and was wondering what LT's would bolt on with minor or no problems to my auto... And maybe some suggestions for a good mid pipe, prefferably an H pipe, and cat back setup to go with it???

Thanks

Shorties don't have to be removed to change clutch and/or tranny work. If you're talking about 3 or 4 HP, even 5 in difference, well... you don't feel 5 hp. You don't feel 50 hp. I'd go with convenience and shorties are it.

there are a few brands of lt's that dont need to be removed to do tranny work, including my cheap flowtech's........

If you aren't gonna supercharge your car I would keep the stock manifolds. L/T's are a pain to install and they have to come back out to pull a transmission.
