Lookin' at a Cobra

At a local mustang shop, they got a black 1993 Cobra. It has 121,000 miles, and it runs great.

As far as engine work, its got long tube headers, O/R H, and unknown cat-back, but it sounds bad-ass. I'm pretty sure its cammed, stock everything else.

The interior is gray and it needs a decent amount of work. Exterior needs a paintjob.

It's had the 5 lug conversion done to it and its currently sporting 17x9 03 cobra wheels with 275's all around, and its been lowered. Also needs new struts badly.


The guy is asking $7,000 for it. I think that if I buy it, spruce it up, compression test the engine and rebuild if necessary, and give it a new paintjob, I can sell it for a decent profit. It would be a fun project to just work on. Any thoughts?

Cobras just have this way of making me weak in the knees... damn, I don't know if 7K is a good deal or not, but I do know that I'd fork the $$$ over and keep that car for life lol. Of course I'd bring it back to stock. Does he have the stock parts that were taken off? Hood etc? Hopefully someone with more cobra sense chimes in

i'd make sure it is a legitimate cobra and do your best to put it back to stock. That would probably fetch the best price.

In my opinion, a cobra in anything but nearly stock trim is just another fox body; Don't get me wrong, they're awesome and I love them too, but they're not worth much more than a GT w/ the same options once they have so many miles and have aftermarket work done to them (5 lug, gauge pod, etc). If you could get it back to stock form, it may fetch some money, but it still has quite a few miles to be a collector car, which is what a Cobra really is.

In my opinion, if you want the car and plan to keep it for a while and are not trying to make money off of it, get it. If you're planning to buy it 100% for an investment (make a profit), that's the wrong idea. Either way, I can't say whether $7000 is a good price or not. My question is, would you pay $7000 if it had the exact same mods, but it was a GT? If so, maybe consider purchasing it. I wouldn't pay much more for that car than a GT w/ similar mods, miles, condition, etc.

7k is a good price these cars go for 5-6k as rollers, I know I bought one.

if he has the original stock parts to go with it, i'd say go for it, otherwise i'd reconsider.

7k is to much.. plain and simple. To pay that for a car that needs work isnt right.. i just couldnt take that car for that kinda money

from the engine bay picture, seems like the fenders have been removed? Is this the car that was being sold over on corral?

Thanks for the replies. I got a lot to think about. There's been a lot of replies going both ways both here and in the 94-95 talk...I'm really torn now. There's not a whole lot of cobras out there in similar condition to compare with so....I guess I'm gonna have to sleep on it.

I wanted to buy it for something fun to work on for a while, then sell, and if I make a profit, I make a profit. If not, oh well.

look it over REALLY well

just from the pics i can see that the front seats have been recovered, the carpet and trim have been f'ed with, lower dash trim has been off, lower part of the d/s front fender and gfx dont fit right, some sort of loose wiring at the rad (electric fan related?), it sits up awful high in the back end...

...and my God that hood is horrendus

however $7k if its a real cobra isnt horrible, they go for double that in nice, stock condition, so 50% less for one that needs some TLC makes sense. just be careful!

make sure the 9th didget in the vin is a D
