IIRC the 85 rear end is a 7.5 and the exhaust is single but you can fix both of those problems. Capries are the poo poo I have always wanted one since I was 17 and me and my 86 Vert had my butt handed to me by a red 85-86 Capri with teh bubble windshield

Cool factor = 10/10 in my book. Do eeeeet

I know it has a 7.5 rear but I thought 85 was the first year that dual tailpipes came stock on all Mustangs and Capri's with a 5.0? It has the ground effects which I guess would make it an RS?

"For 1985 Ford updated the 5.0 liter (302) H.O. 4bbl V8 with a new roller camshaft, forged 8.4:1 pistons, free-flow stainless steel exhaust manifolds, and some other internal engine reworking. There was also a new standard free-flow semi-dual exhaust system. It was a dual muffler system from the cat back with each pipe exiting under the rear bumper (one pipe on the left taillight side and the other on the right taillight side). Gone was the previous single muffler dual outlet exhaust with two pipes exiting on the same side under the rear bumper."

That was taken from a referrence page I found on the net.

First year for a roller cam in the HO engines. Still a 7.5 and still a Y pipe exhaust, but both are fairly simple to fix.

I agree, I don't come on here as often as I would like but every capri thread I see has this comment.....

Get the Capri, you will love it.

You can score a whole 8.8 rear end, drum to drum, for less than $150 on average.

Double-hump crossmembers are like $75 new, but you can get 'em used from junkyards or Craigslist or whatever for far less. (I got mine for $40.)

OEM shorty headers from '87-'93 Stangs go anywhere from $50 all the way down to ... nothing. (I scored mine for free, but I still haven't gotten around to putting them or my double-hump on there.)

Is this a T-5 or AOD Capri you're looking at? If it's an AOD, it's most likely still got the crappy CFI setup like I have. You can convert to carb pretty cheap and easily - just need an intake, carb, fuel pressure regulator, and a Lokar adapter for the AOD's TV rod or cable - and if it's already set up with quasi-duals, then you've got the single in-tank pump and you won't have to deal with getting rid of the external pump and filter being located where the passenger-side muffler goes (like on mine ... which is the only reason why I haven't thrown on duals, yet ). Otherwise, all you gotta do is swap in the double-hump crossmember and throw on your headers and mid-pipe of choice, and you're good to go.

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

They're all over Craigslist in the Phoenix area, any given day of the week. Depends on who's selling it. Most guys are reasonable (I've seen a full Trac-lok 8.8" rear with 2.73's go for $110), but some are frickin' retarded when it comes to their pricing.

If my wife wouldn't divorce me if I got another car I would have to get a Capri. My neighbor had an 81 when I was in high school and ever since I have loved the body style.

BTW there is an 81 ttop capri on ebay right now. Just a 4 banger but the price is right for now.

This Capri is a 5 speed with the 4 barrel carb. Going to look at it tomorrow. Hopefully everything will work out with it.

Looked at the Capri today and buying it tomorrow. Needs headliner, dash pad, and drivers door moldings. The car is bone stock right down to the factory radio and exhaust. One owner that bought it brand new in 85, car is titled as a GS but the owner sent it back to the factory to get all the RS specialties done. Car is very quick, I think I'll be happy with it being stock. I'll post pics when I get it and have it cleaned up.

This thing is definately a survivor and a diamond in the rough. I've only ever seen one Capri actually driving down the road in my life.
