i like the way glocks feel and all but the only thing i didnt like is there lack of safety...and if u have kids in the house and its there just something thats always on your mind...
Looking at new pistols! OPINIONS WANTED!!!!!

I will just sound off one more time, handle the glock 9mm and then hold a springfield XD 9. Both excellent guns that are extremely reliable. At any rate buy what feels good in your hand as either will fit your needs. Only difference is the XD will save you about 100 bucks. But what you like the feel of is the important thing.

As far as the safety goes, if your finger is off the trigger, the gun will NOT fire. You can drop it and it wont fire. The only thing I don't like about Glocks is that there is no de-cocking lever like on a Sig unless you release the magazine and un-chamber the round.
I understand the concern as far as having the kids around a loaded gun. That's a scary scenario. I have no kids so I have no problem leaving my Glock on my nightstand with a fully loaded mag and one in the pipe.
I should also mention that I keep the gun in a holster so the trigger guard is protected from an accidental/negligent discharge. When I have kids, the gun goes in a safe next to my bed that is bolted to the floor. I also should add that inside my home, the gun stays on my hip (just in case). Since I live in CA, I cannot carry outside my home but inside my home I can feel safe when ever I answer the door.
I hear the XD is really comfy in your hand. I am going to rent one next time at the range. The Walther P99 is super comfy, but I don't like Walthers much.

lol, well said roofie. Safety is not a big issue, my 9 yr old sister has been trained to handle a gun safely, plus there is no way a kid is getting into our safe. I don't even know the code. The only thing that might bug me about the glock is the double trigger system.

Like I said it was a pet peeve (which means its a stupid dumb non important irritant). Lol, but I like your analogy 'cause like a mop and a broom a clip and a magazine do similar but different jobs
And just as I said if you pointed to a broom and called it a mop people are going to think your dumb. Lol. Just yankin ya. If I was going to be really pedantic I would have bitched about people using the term bullets when they mean cartridges. LMAO. Oh and we got turkey shoots up here as well. I wasn't aware that they were a "southern thing"
Anyway back to the topic. The glock trigger is kinda like a double action revolver. You just have to get used to it. Its no where near as difficult to get used to then a DA/SA gun like the beretta 92. That first long, heavy trigger pull is odd next to the light SA pulls that follow. Generally I don't like glocks but I have to give them their due.
Have you thought about a revolver? Ruger makes some really nice examples that can be had for cheap. My sp101 is an awesome gun for the price and I have shot many nice gp100s as well.
Anyway let us know what you get and how you like it.
Alright thanks every one for the advice. It turns out the gun show is not until next weekend, but today I am going to a local gunshop to see what I can get in terms of a trade. To tell you the truth I never really liked revolvers. Oh and I call them rounds.

Does any one load their own ammo? I have been for awhile now and i gotta tell ya, it is much more accurate, and aLOT cheaper. I pay 3 cents around for 30-30 ammo. I have a real nice bench setup that I share with my neighbor and I hav everything you could possibly need when loading. I'll post a pic of our setup later, along with one of my Walther.

I figure you do know but just incase you haven't done it reloading straight cased shells is different though, and as cheap as ammo is for 9's/40's i just buy it. Copper miners gotta eat too.

Lol I was just kidding about the bullets thing. But yes I reload. I have a RCB rock chucker and a lee turret press. I also had a hornady progressive shotgun press but I sold it cause i don't really shoot my shotguns enough to justify it. Anyway my folks just moved to TN so I lost my reloading space and I'm down to using a lee hand press.
I reload not only because it is cheaper but you can load good practice loads. I load 9mm rounds with just enough power to fully move the slide in my beretta. Saves money and lessens wear and tear on the gun. Plus they are great for practicing fundimentals.
Did the same for my .223 and the 308 match rounds (this really saved me cash). My fiance's father is quite the gun nut and casts his own bullets. I get nice lead 38/357 bullets for nothing as well as any brass he scrounges that he doesn't need or has too much of.
Yeah, I didn't like revolvers either untill I found out I get much better groups with them. I think it has more to do with the fact that the average revolver has a smoother trigger (IMHO) then the average autoloader and I can "stage" the trigger much easier. I aslo just like the heft of a nice revolver. But hey to each their own.

Turkey shoots in New Hampshire???I reload my own ammo as well. Right now I'm only doing 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 auto, .38/357, and .44 mag. I use a RCBS single stage press, which is a lot of work and very time-consuming. It does save a little money, not a ton. I mostly do it because I enjoy it, just a hobby really. Eventually I'll start loading for my rifles. The cost savings and accuracy improvements are much more substantial with rifle loads. BTW, if you need reloading supplies check out www.midwayusa.com
Yeah reloading is gret, and thanks for the compliments on the SKS, it has a professionally polished slide, it is the smoothest SKS I have ever felt. I got it for 200 bucks, all numbers matching with the original stock.
Ok, here are a few pics of my gun. What do you guys think its worth? The gun retails for $415, the Scope mount was $40 and the site was $90. The site is an NCStar 4 reticle tactical sight, and from my experience VERY nice for the money, My neighbor has a Holo on his mini 14 and they are very comparable.

If you have smallish hands, then i'm guessing your wrists aren't the strongest, which should keep you away from anything built on a 1911 frame. You will stovepipe at least once every mag if you shoot weak wristed (not a slam)
I would highly suggest 9mm as a target pistol that you can keep for carry/protection. The rounds are cheap, and you can step up to +p hollowpoints for defense.
Glocks are handy, not too big in the grip and work under any condition. Taurus is actually a pretty good brand with some models as they use the same machining tools as Beretta. *Thats how they got started*
