Looking for free/cheap weight reduction idea's

On 1/4 tank of gas my hatch weighed 2981 w/o me. It had aluminum heads, a/c delete, no spare tire/jack, removed tire well cover, removed dog-bone, and that's really all I can think of.

Other weight savings ideas (probably already mentioned): fiberglass hood (Kaenen makes really nicely fitting 2" cowl hoods), remove dog-bone, remove insulation/sound-deadening crap under carpet (if you still want the sound deadened you can do it better for lighter), rear-seat delete, fiberglass hatch (haven't tried this myself.... afraid of fitment issues), center console delete kit (probably 10 lbs - find them at that mustang resto website), aluminum driveshaft, Weld or centerline wheels, race seats, remove passenger seat or replace with race seat, removed front windshield, remove doors.

Add roadside assist to your insurance for 3 bux every 6 months and that takes care of your 2am problem, and the spare tire/jack is pretty heavy. I think the spare tire itself is 30 lbs.

Umm ... having seen what a lot of 2-door cars look like after side-impact crashes WITH their door beams intact, I dare not even guess what'd be left of a Mustang with its crash reinforcements removed. Squashed Coors Light can, anyone? :D

have any of you actually looked at the crash beams in the doors? Like that is really going to stop a car from crushing the door! and i dont drive my car much since i bought the truck and trailor

i cut the metal out of my doors and the crash beams took off 42lbs all together!

Same here, the side impact supports are a huge weight saving but.... only should be removed on cage cars. The door bars on a cage are stronger than the factory side impact supports anyway. It's a bit of a job to get them out. Have to cut them in half inside the door to fit them out.

I'd like to find another 100 lbs to remove from the car w/o spending money. I will not compromise my safety though so door and bumper supports will stay in my streeter.

I will look into removing the sound deadning, dogbone, wiper resivior and the cruise control. I should also lose 10-15lbs of rotating weight with my lightened axles i'm going to be ordering.

How about radio and speakers? I took all that out of my car, speakers are heavy and so is the radio, not sure if you use them but mine never worked. The rear seat might help. Just take it out and cut some wood and paint it black or get some cloth to cover it.
