My 88' GT has Flowmaster Super 40's (cat back), an Off-road H-pipe, CAI (with K&N filter) and an Electric Fan.

I was wondering if anyone could give me an educated estimate of what kind of horsepower and torque these mods have freed up. I've long guessed it would be somewhere around the 260 mark (perhaps more since the stock hp figures were sandbagged for insurance).

Thanks for any help.

Prob 210 at the wheels if your lucky.. That's not many mods..

That would be 15 less break hp than stock.

Im thinkin youll barely break 200. Maybe 205... I dynoed my 95 cobra with the same mods in 95 degree weather can couldnt even make 200 rwhp(it was so low because of heat.) But put some nice headers on that and that will free up a surprising amount of hp.

That was going to be my next move anyway, a nice set of ceramic shorties. It's kind of tricky with this car, because my father wanted a Red 5 speed but got cut a deal on a Blue AOD he couldn't refuse. My ambition is basically to produce as much performance as I can with the stock platform. I like the ride of the AOD on the highway, but sacrificing the 2.73's in the rear would leave the car breathless where I drive it most, making that a non-option. Also, I will never in a million year stroke out the engine. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against it, but there just aren't very many true 5.0s out there anymore.

I've prettymuch settled that I'm first going to exhaust the bolt ons, shorties, than heads, than intake (ect.), Later on, I would really like to rebuild the engine and put a mild supercharger on it (9 psi max), so as to not compromise the longevity of my car.

Performance is a must, but reliability comes foremost.

200 rwhp on a good day.

With the AOD, I would bet that the car doesn't even break 200rwhp. If you aren't going to change the 2.73's then you might as well not mod the car. That gear and the AOD will hold back any potential for it to be quick.

Big mistake. A 3.73 gear swap will transform the car and you'll be amazed at the difference. As Arnold the Governator would say, "Do it. Do it now!"
As for the estimated HP, stock AOD 5.0's put down about 160-170rwhp and you might have about 20rwhp more if the engine still has good compression in all cylinders.

Swap gears FIRST. I went from 2.73's to 3.55's and it felt as though I added 75 horse power.No,gears don't add power,but they help the power do it's job quicker. I have a 3.73 rear in the garage,but can't decide if the swap from 3.55 to 3.73 is worth it or not. Either way,new gears,then mod the rest.

For comparison I'll give you my settup and rwhp numbers on my '88.
Mine is a T5 manual
I have a 65mmtb mounted on a ported "stock" intake.
Stock cam, heads, and bottom end.
FRPP ceramic coated headers.
Bassani catted X pipe with 2 chamber flowmasters.
Electric fan.
Mac CAI.
Underdrive pulleys
Still running speed density.
MSD coil and distributer set @14degrees timing.

The car made 239rwhp/298rwtq on a Dynojet. "Not too shabby"

I'm also running an Aluminum driveshaft and 3.73's.

3.73's are a Must!! My car felt like it gained 100 hp when those were installed.
