Seriously looking at a 90 gt 5.0 hatchback, speedo says 73.xxxx(gauge can't show the one hundread thousands place), owner believes it to be 170,000. Body is awesome, ram air hood that has two slots, wing that is flat and comes off tail about 2 feet, bright red cobra paint,

5-SPEED WITH 94 GT REAR AXLE AND 5-LUG CONVERSION(MAJOR PLUS), shifting felt good has long throw though,

performance exhaust with turndowns and k+n filter, thats it, which is how I want to buy a sports car so I know it hasn't been dogged out to badly.

Drive_ clutch takes up high, engine needs to be tuned most likely, brakes have pads but pedal goes down way too far-I will bleed them.

No a/c

No radio has Cruise control and airbag!!!!

Interior is rough but common for 16year old car. Seats are from ford probe but actually feel great, no major stains. Gauges work.

Car is faster than I ever expected but not too much for me to handle.

Has exhaust manifold leak in two place near the collectors. Idles good once warm, yet shakes or misfires every 7 or 8 seconds(plugs?) I believe engine runs rich do to this, because it is very sensitive to touching gas. Corret me if wrong.

Tires have 35% tread left. Exterior is flawless, awesome!!!

Power steering has slight wining noise but I've noticed this on many older fords like explorers and rangers before.

Owner had it only 1 month and says he wants to get a civic or something for gas mileage, but this is a nice car and I just wonder if something else it going on with it.

OWNER WANTS $2100-$2500 YES, YOU READ RIGHT, BUT PLEASE GIVE COMMENTS I WOULD LIKE TOTAL OUTSIDE OPINION, also this will be a daily driver, car is rough riding(mustang) but I can deal with it. Don't plan to mod it out and then get bored like most others, just want to drive and enjoy having a nice car for now.

I'd take a pass. Although it sounds like it's had some decent upgrades (5-lug), it sounds like it has its fair share of problems for the money. 170k plus miles, no AC, exhaust leaks, rough idle that could be ignition related, but could also be low compression, and only a few mods that mean the car has more than likely been beaten to death to get every ounce of their potential. I'd spend a little more money if necessary to find one in better shape that's preferably original, even if it doesn't have a 5-lug conversion or something, to know that it has a better history. A flawless exterior only tells me the car has been repainted if the interior has been neglected, so for all you know, it could be half bondo. The guy might be selling it to get an economy car, but chances are, he's trying to get out from under the unforseen problems this car has, in my opinion.

you said you were going to keep it as a second car and you wanted to do some mods i would say go for it. But the fact that you are going to drive it everyday.......i would shy away from something that has that "unknown problems"

It might just need a quick tune up.....it might need a complete rebuild!
If you deecide you do want it and want A/C, let me know, I have a complete factory set up off my 89 GT ready to go in a box with every nut and bolt you need!

Wow, I honestly didn't get a chance to read the replies you guys have, but you're right I should of passed. Here's the copy I wrote from several other forums, thanks for advice. Sucks I logged on with the name 90 gt, I was really hooked on that car, I messed up good, but oh well. Read on.

Well, here's what happened.

I came back, drove the car on the interstate, rode good, looked over engine, but not good enough. So I pulled price down to $2000 and bought it without taking it to mechanic first( biggest mistake EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

So, car rides rough, idles rough, but power is ridiculous( latter to find out becuase it running very rich). So I drive the car directly to my brothers job, popular car service franchise.

Put car in air, mechanics look under it: 1.cracked frame where someone tried to drill two srcews to do something? needs to be welded. 2.left front tire is belt in~been hit on left front which belt upper control arms so I'll need spinndel and rack and pinnion. 3. Mechanic tells me the $700 d... HEATER CORE was literally cut with some shears or something to bypass the check engine light. 4. Smog pump has been bypassed by timing belt AND IS RUSTED SOLID~$200. 5. They went ahead and told me the egr valve is a problem too, so thats $180. 6. The manifold gasket needs replacing $450.

Basically all the mechanics crowd around and just start listing s... wrong from bumper to bumper.

Oh, yeah that nice e-brake and 94 gt conversion was just perfect. The d... rear brake lines have been cut and are just hanging, resulting in of course no e-brake. Thats just unexplainable to me.

Yes, the tires, they quoted me at $600 for new ones.

Also, the biggest problem is that half that s... prevents the fox body from passing emissions and in my state this is very illegal to sell a car that can't pass emissions. Why, that good old smog pump for starters is rusted solid.

By the way, this is a summary of the big things that stand out, there are several small issues also but i'll leave it at that, you know stuff like oh lets say NO COOLANT IN RADIATOR!!! AHHHHHHH D..... M................. GO TO H... WITH THIS S... So, mechanics put water in for time being and guess what flows out, RUST~WOW JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER.

So, as you can imagine I realize my grave mistake and call the seller and tell him i'm bring this car back to him for my money back.

He felt very bad and had no idea of these problems supposedly, which i believe for the most part. He told me that he got screwed to becuase he bought the car for $2500 from a mechanic at a performance shop and they didn't indicate any problems but the a/c and radio.(big surprise, they messed this car up good and just painted it to get ride of it)

So my brother followed and i met the seller and he lead me to his house, at his house he said he will back it in himself so I jumped out and he jumpd in, we both laugh becuase we both know the car will roll from not having an e-brake.
He backs it in reving the loud car up and down like someone who has driven that scary clutch for 3 months would.
I'm standing to the side kind of behind a bush waiting for him to get out and say thanks for not screwing with me, when ALL OF THE SUDDEN HIS DAD SHOOTS OUT OF THE HOUSE, (whoaaa!!,) I step behind the bush more thinking of my safety. His dad is vexed, mad, upset, pissed off, and then the mother shoots out tooo just as mad looking, so I'm thinking the parents didn't want him to let me bring the car back.

Therefore, I walk to my brothers car and open the passenger door(he's driving) then the seller's friend who was riding with him but couldn't drive a stick, which is way I drove to his house, comes over and says:
him:"Do you know how to get back?" ~with a concerned tone
me" yes." ~ with equal concern and wonder of whats going on.
him: " Just go, alright, just go." ~more concern and almost pleading for my apparent safety.

So yeah, in about 30 seconds my bro and I are far away and traveling fast hoping not to see and old guy chasing us.

If you kept reading down to this thanks, if you're laughing thats cool glad you enjoyed. Yes, I made a mistake, didn't get it inspected before buying. IM SO THANKFUL TO GOD I GOT MY MONEY BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Learn a good lesson about buying cars.
