Hey, I'm new to this site and totally new to posting on forums...everyone has to start sometime I guess! I actually posted this same thing earlier in the 5.0 tech section, but it may be better placed here...I'm not sure.
I am looking for info/opinions on 5.0L head/cam combinations. I have a 95 cobra and I am looking to upgrade. I am leaning toward a pair of twisted wedge heads with 2.02/1.60 valves, and a ford b-cam. It needs to be drivable, but I don't care about gas milage...I want the most power I can get and, of course, A nice lopey idle. Any suggestions? Also what else needs to be upgraded when a new cam and heads are installed? The cobras already have a 65mm throtle body and 24lb injectors, what else might I need?

Thanks so much!!!!!

welcome to the boards :nice:

dont take to heart what i say but let some of the more experienced stangneter's chime in on this one. im gonna take a stab at it tho- lots of good things said about the trickflow heads, sounds like a excellent choice to me ( not sure about ptv clearance tho ). as far as the cam goes, im thinking several guys on here will probably suggest the trickflow 2000 ( stage 1 ) cam. specs are - 221/225 .499/.510 with a 112 ls and i believe thats with a 1.6 rocker. im thinking the cobras have 1.7s so the duration and lift will vary slightly. for an off-the-shelf cam, this seems to be a good choice that still will give you good driveability and a pretty sweet lope along with added power with the matched heads and intake. several guys say the letter cams, such as the B cam, is outdated. if you already have a cobra intake, i dont see why you cant keep using that but im not real keen on how restrictive or unrestrictive it will be with that head/cam combo.

also, may want to ask the more experienced on here about how cams dont always play nice with the pcm. lots of 94/95 guys plan on getting a tune after a HCI install.

the factory gt40 heads you have aren't terrible by no means but the trickflows are far better

welcome to 94-95 :SNSign:

I didn't think our Cobras had larger tb's
I know the Fox's did

Your Cobra 1.7 ped rr's would be moot if you go TFS ... btw

Many peeps have done well with the TFS kit
but
You already have that Cobra intake
then again
You could always sell that Cobra
and
I'd rather have the th upper any day over a Cobra

If you wanna go for the most NA h/c/i power ...
You will wanna do a tune for two reasons here :D

1 Ensure you gain the most power
2 Deal with drivability issues that most likely will crop up

Welcome to :SNSign: I'm running the same heads on my car, along with the same cam that comes along with their top end kit. I didn't catch where you live, but if emissions are of no concern, I'd personally look into a different cam other than the FRPP one. It's been said that the Cobra PCM handles cams better, but I'm sure someone like Grady can verify this for me. You shouldn't have any piston to valve clearance issues with the 2.02 valves on the TFS heads because they're canted, instead of inline like the factory valves. To my knowledge, they're the only heads that you can get away with the 2.02 intake valve on a stock shortblock. Because of that, I chose them over the AFR heads, since I may plan on a stroker down the road, and I can give Total Engine Airflow a call to CNC port them for me.

Our stock TB is 60mm, not as big fan of the letter cams, there are good numbers with them on here tho, as far as intake goes, you have a few choices. Port the cobra you have, or go with a nice aftermarket piece (Edel, holly, trickflow, etc). All the info you will need to maximize what your looking for is here, Tom has flow sheets for his ported intakes, as well as popular aftermarket ones; there is a flow chart for heads in the sticky at the top of the 94 - 95 section, and there are lots of experienced gear heads on here too, Ohhh and before I forget the PCM god Grady..... lol, He may be old but he's pretty darn sharp, (he is starting to lose his mind with all the emoticons tho).:D

How do you like the Trick Flow cam??? I think my best option may be a stage one. Will my valves clear? How will it sound and how do you think it will work with my cobra intake...I am keeping the cobra intake because the goal is to have a "stock looking" car that runs like a bat outa he**!
