no. its for when your parked somewhere suspiciously and all the cop can see is the front of your car. so that he can call in the plate before he gets out to talk to you. so that if your some crazy as***** dispatch has your plate before anything happens.

also if the plates on your dash its obstruction of view and could just be obscurred.

also those plastic covers are illegal

I got nabbed by a state trooper on July 4th for not having one. The trooper took about 2-3 miles to catch up with our pack of cars on I-10, weaving in and out of cars to pull me over. We were all speeding, so he couldn't write a ticket for it since he did not get my car, but got me for the plate. Paid it, and went on my way.

I thought the dumb law was crazy, until a vette owner and LEO on Corvetteforum solved a murder case just because of a few digits he got on a front license plate. There have been other documented cases of front license plates working in similar cases. With the new technology, it is, or will nail people with expired or revoked licenses, reg, exp, and no insurance.

Why? What are you doing to need one of these. If you are breaking the law, then pay the price. How old are you?

Everybody seems to want an easy way out and beat the system. The LEO's are out there to do their job. If you run catless, and get caught, pay the fine. If you speed and get caught, pay the fine. Special treatment, and finding loopholes or ways around the law is stupid.

I break the law in my cars, but I know that and won't complain. I'll pay the fine if at fault.

If your states requires the front plate to be mounted, there will be some statue in the state's law that spells out the means/requirement to mount the plate.

That is good. The LEO's have a hard job. If they can't read, and possibly not see your plate, then you run the risk of being pulled over and ticketed, regardless of the law. The angle of front windshields vary. In my vette, you could have one on the windshield and you wouldn't be able to see it unless flying overhead.

There has to be. The wouldn't be a law in your state saying that you have to have a front plate mounted without spelling out exactly where/how/etc etc.

If not, then the citation wouldn't be issued in the first place.

Here's what my state law says:

Number plates.
(a) Upon receipt of the tax the director of finance shall number and register the vehicle in the owner's name in a permanent record or book to be kept by the director for this purpose, and shall furnish the owner thereof with a receipt showing upon its face the license number issued for the vehicle and the fact that the license tax has been paid thereon for the whole or the remainder of the current year in which the receipt is issued. The director of finance shall also furnish the owner, upon the original registration of the vehicle, two number plates for the vehicle or one plate in the case of trailers, semitrailers, or motorcycles with the registration number marked thereon. Upon the payment of the tax for each year a tag or emblem bearing a serial number and the month and year of expiration shall be provided to the owner. Transfer of current number plates, tag, or emblem, except as authorized by this chapter or by chapter 286, is punishable by a fine of not more than $50 for each offense.
(b) Upon an original registration the director of finance shall fix, and shall charge to the owner, a fee equal to the cost of the number plate and tag or emblem plus the administrative cost of furnishing the plate and tag or emblem and effecting the registration. Upon the issuance of a new series of number plates as determined by the directors of finance of each county through majority consent, the director of finance shall charge the owner a fee equal to the costs of the number plate plus the administrative cost of furnishing the plates. Upon issuing a tag or emblem, the director of finance shall charge the owner a fee of 50 cents. The owner shall securely fasten (prevents people from placing on dash, etc) the number plates on the vehicle, one on the front and the other on the rear, at a location provided by the manufacturer or in the absence of such a location upon the bumpers of the vehicle and in conformance with section 291-31, in such a manner as to prevent the plates from swinging. Number plates shall at all times be displayed entirely unobscured and be kept reasonably clean. In the case of trailers, semitrailers, or motorcycles, one plate shall be used and it shall be fastened to the rear thereof at a location provided by the manufacturer or in the absence of such a location at the rear thereof, and in the case of motorcycles in conformance with section 291-31.

I got pulled over for it twice. Its been on my car ever since. Just get over it, mount it on the car and bring pictures to court with you. You'll be out of there in no time.

You dont want to give cops an excuse to pull you over. Thats why mine is on the car.

Kansas only issued one plate. Missouri issues 2 plates. Pearl02.

the older you get the more you just obey the law and forgo all the hassle of looking cool

make that the more mature you get...some folks get older with getting smarter

well said. Plus, havent you heard of the freak accidents where someone who gets in an accident....the plate comes flying at their neck? yikes.

idk where u are but im in tx and have mine there to and have never had any issues my dad is a cop and i dont think there is anything illegal about it unless it states otherwise as it is no more less visable there than the front but of course i had mine held up in the top of the windshield using suction cups if its at the bottom the view is obstructed

Yes, it is illegal in Texas to not have a front plate.
